| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! How about Starship Troopers' "Bugs"? Since we're talking about movie aliens here, I'll ignore the Bugs from the novel (who had actual technology). I have to admit that the ST Bugs and the "Ender's Game" Buggers were direct inspirations for my Crendd Hwaata, but the Hwaata were mainly made in response to those hive-mind aliens. I wanted a species that lived in relegated hive-system but wasn't being mind-controlled by a central authority. |

So, we can count the 'bugs' a one species? Or several who have developed symbiotical and high social relationships? For example...there's the warrior caste, (Those things gave me childhood nightmares) that odd cross between warrior ants, mantis and other bugs. They act as the main defenders and attackers for the colony, right? Then, the Plasma Bugs...(how could a species develop a weapon like that) and the Tank Bugs (apparently, the shoot napalm from a gland)... Those small roaches who carry the Brain Bug... The Brain Bug itself... |
