| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. READ THIS WHOLE THING. Spoiler: click to toggle This is what the islands currently look like, there are three main ones with the largest on top and two smaller ones underneath. A healthy sprinkling of much smaller islands surround them. This the thread where we shall: - Decide the placement of the biomes and overall climate of the archipelago (within reason). - The exact appearance of the islands (their shape, position and number of them). - Points of interest for the islands. - Their names (the three (or more depending on what we decide) main ones require names now, smaller ones can be maintained on a need-to-know basis). One word names are strongly suggested. - Anything else you want to suggest. Currently what has been strongly suggested for the islands: - A subtropical climate from the top to a temperate climate at the bottom (an average cold of -10c was suggested by me). - A maximum of 4 main islands (main island on top). - A combined area just over Hateg Island (I'm thinking of raising the total area to 85 000 square kilometres to maybe allow for animals reaching 1.5 tonnes). Please comment on as much as you can below. |

Galopagos has many people on it, and a sizable amount of invasive species. That won't be a good thing for the Anisian islands imo |

Projects and concepts that I have stewing around Extended Pleistocene- An alternate future where man died out, and the megafauna would continue to thrive (may or may not include a bit about certain future sapients) Inverted World- An alternate timeline where an asteroid hit during the Barremian, causing an extinction event before the Maastrichtian. Dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and notosuchians make it to the present, along with a host of other animals. Badania- Alien planet that has life at a devonian stage of development, except it exists in the present day. Ido- Alien world where hoppers (derived flightless ballonts) and mouthpart-legged beasts are prevalent. Leto- Life on a moon orbiting a gas giant with an erratic orbit; experiences extremes of hot and cold. The Park- ??? Deeper Impact- a world where the K-Pg extinction wipes out crocodilians, mammals, and birds; squamates, choristoderes, and turtles inherit the earth. World of Equal Opportunity- alternate history where denisovans come across Beringia and interact with native fauna. Much of the Pleistocene fauna survives, and the modern humans that end up crossing into North America do not overhunt the existing animals. 10,000 years later, civilizations exist that are on par with European and Asian societies. The Ditch- Nothing is what if seems.. | |

Yeah, I think it being owned by France or England until some time when they are declared international territory, with the only permanent residents being scientists. |

Can I name the islands north of Isa the Lahud Island Chain as well? I came up with a species native to those islands. Also, Lahud means seaward in Proto-Austronesian. |

As I said in the Skype chat I actually like the idea of France and the UK having claim over different parts of the archipelago, so we could have French and British place names, with a few others (Dutch? Maori?) sprinkled around too... |

So here is the near-finished biome map of the archipelago: Spoiler: click to toggle If any of you wish for any changes say so now or it'll stay the same. |

I named all the islands in the Lahud Island Chain. Moana (northmost island, means ocean in tahitian, and is named so for it being the northmost island in the archipelago) Māfatu (south of moana, means heart in tahitian, and is named so for being near the middle of this chain of islands) Fatata (south of Māfatu, and is the closest island to Isa, this word means near in tahitian, and is of course, named so for being one of the closest islands to Isa) 'Atatu (East of Fatata, and means right in Tahitian. It is named so for being the most eastward island in this chain) |

I probably shouldn't double post, but, how deep is the deepest lake in the archipelago? |
