Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Altough I disagree at the fact that you shouldn't be discouraged to continue if you don't get replies.
Seriously it's harder then it states.

Personally, I'd recommend not just looking at the number of replies you're getting, but also looking at the number of views your topic's getting. A popular project usually has way more views than replies (e.g. Perdido has over 37 times more views than replies), and I'd say they serve as a much more accurate way of gauging how popular your project is.

Not getting replies doesn't necessarily mean your project isn't enjoyed and shouldn't be continued, if you're getting views but not replies, it just means people feel there's no reason to reply, not that your project's bad. In fact, I'd say you'd probably get MORE replies if you were doing something wrong because that leads to people wanting to help correct your mistakes and steer you in the right direction. If you've explained everything in your updates and done all your homework, there my be no need for people to ask questions or criticise what you've written.

And it's not just replies we use anymore, we've got a like system in place, so even the simple comments of praise and encouragement can instead be voiced by a "[Username] likes this post". Likes are another thing to keep an eye on, along with topic views, because people who aren't replying could just be liking instead (it's a good way of letting someone know you're enjoying the project if you don't have anything to say about it besides you like it).

Try not to get too strung up on replies, likes and views are what you should be looking at. Having a lot of views build up can mean your project's audience is increasing, and it can also mean that people who have already seen your project are coming back for more, both signs you're on the right track for a successful project.

I may be quoting Hananas here, but this post is for everyone discouraged by a lack of replies, not just Hananas.

You can make a table of contents by listing the updates you've done. This can be done by posting the links of the single posts of the updates, which you can name. Take a look at Perdido, Illion or Sheatheria for some great examples.

If you're not sure how to get the link to a single post, all you have to do is go the top right corner of the post you want to link to and copy the link from where it says "Post #[number]", where [number] is whatever number the post is in the topic (for example, this should be Post #20 if I haven't been ninja'd).

This link should lead to the post with your question, Archeoraptor, as an example.

If you're ambitious and think your project is going to get big, it is a good idea to post a blank reply to your OP before anyone else does. You can use this space for a table of contents later. Otherwise, you can edit that stuff into your OP since in big projects, especially the ones that start with a seed of a concept, the content of the original post is probably outdated. In my thread, I put all that old content in a quote box and commandeered the space for a new introduction paragraph and table of contents.

How does the Neozoic stack up to these requirements?

In the end, the best advice I could give you would be to do your project in a way that feels natural to you, rather than trying to imitate some geek with a laptop in Colorado.

The biggest problem with Neozoic is a lack of organization. Species are strewn around all over the place, and with the different time periods it gets confusing fast. I'd strongly suggest including a table of context in the OP, with all posts so far linked and arranged by time period.)

Well, now that it's gone on for so long I'm not sure that I can go back and reorganize it. I do have a timeline, though I had to make some major changes to it recently in order to make the evolution of the Gulosuids more plausible.

You forgot the most important one:
Always update when nobody else is on.

Also:
Always have skywhales

I've probably broken every one of these except plagiarism.

Why not? All you have to do is look through your thread, find each entry you made and then put them in a list on the op. Would you like me to do this? I don't know the timeline but I could at least get all the updates in one place
