| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Registration is free and instantaneous. Join our community today! |

F.I.N.D.R INTRODUCTION DOCUMENT If you’re reading this, then congratulations, you’ve been hired by the Foundation of INter-Dimensional Research, or F.I.N.D.R for short. My name is Man-X, and I am the founder and head of this organization, though you probably already know that. If for some reason you don’t, allow me to elaborate. A few years ago, I was known as Carlton Malt, and I was working on a device that would be able to open a stable portal between two different universes. While I was interested in furthering the advancement of science, I must admit that I did have some ulterior goals. You see, according to the multiverse model that I devised, any conceivable reality exists out there, in its own universe. Any conceivable reality, up to and including any Movie, TV show, Book, Comic, any piece of media ever created. The idea of being able to finally visit the worlds of my favorite characters, the dream of every child, hell, probably a lot of adults, was simply too good to pass up. However, during the first test of the Multi-Universe Device, or M.U.D for short (Yes it’s a silly name, but it works), there was…an accident. The machine malfunctioned, and it caused…A dent in the universe, for lack of a better word. The entire lab was dragged through the multiverse…With me in it. That’s how I got my powers, at some point during the failure; I must have passed through a universe that had physics similar to that of a cartoon, and it seemed to have acclimated to me. At first, I was ecstatic; it was proof that my theory was correct, those universes existed out there somewhere and they could be reached. However, that excitement wasn’t going to last long. A few hours after the accident, the first break opened. Now I’m sure by now you must have heard about the breaks, but I’ve been told that I have to explain what they are anyway. Now sure who made that call since I’m the one in charge, but whatever. A break, in its simplest terms, is a portal to another universe. It seems that when the M.U.D malfunctioned, it weakened the boundary between our world and the rest of the Multiverse, causing the breaks to open naturally. They close up over time…usually, but when they are open, anything from the other universe, or our universe for that matter, is free to wander right on through. I don’t think I need to highlight the problems that can arise from that, but in case I do, the Los Angeles Incident is first of the files you’ve been given. So now these breaks are opening all over the world and everyone is in danger of the multitude of things that could come through. Of course some groups tried to hide it, cover the LA incident as a “Publicity stunt”. Ya, not a soul bought that, so I stepped in and took responsibility for it. I vowed in front of a worldwide news broadcast that I would fix the problem that I started. It was then that F.I.N.D.R was born, dedicated to the detection, containment and study of the Breaks and everything that comes through. But to do that, I needed a team. I’ve formed the Alpha Response Team, A.R.T for short, and I’m sure our Bios are in those files you’ve been given, but there’s a lot more work that goes into this place. Scientists, Maintenance workers, Animal handlers for the creatures we can’t send back, and even with tech we have, it’s a handful. That’s where you come in. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (As a note to any SSU players that might be reading , this is not in canon with the game. I might make referances and parallels, but it takes place it its own world.) |
