Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

F.I.N.D.R INTRODUCTION DOCUMENT

If you’re reading this, then congratulations, you’ve been hired by the Foundation of INter-Dimensional Research, or F.I.N.D.R for short. My name is Man-X, and I am the founder and head of this organization, though you probably already know that. If for some reason you don’t, allow me to elaborate.

A few years ago, I was known as Carlton Malt, and I was working on a device that would be able to open a stable portal between two different universes. While I was interested in furthering the advancement of science, I must admit that I did have some ulterior goals. You see, according to the multiverse model that I devised, any conceivable reality exists out there, in its own universe. Any conceivable reality, up to and including any Movie, TV show, Book, Comic, any piece of media ever created. The idea of being able to finally visit the worlds of my favorite characters, the dream of every child, hell, probably a lot of adults, was simply too good to pass up. However, during the first test of the Multi-Universe Device, or M.U.D for short (Yes it’s a silly name, but it works), there was…an accident. The machine malfunctioned, and it caused…A dent in the universe, for lack of a better word. The entire lab was dragged through the multiverse…With me in it. That’s how I got my powers, at some point during the failure; I must have passed through a universe that had physics similar to that of a cartoon, and it seemed to have acclimated to me. At first, I was ecstatic; it was proof that my theory was correct, those universes existed out there somewhere and they could be reached. However, that excitement wasn’t going to last long. A few hours after the accident, the first break opened.

Now I’m sure by now you must have heard about the breaks, but I’ve been told that I have to explain what they are anyway. Now sure who made that call since I’m the one in charge, but whatever. A break, in its simplest terms, is a portal to another universe. It seems that when the M.U.D malfunctioned, it weakened the boundary between our world and the rest of the Multiverse, causing the breaks to open naturally. They close up over time…usually, but when they are open, anything from the other universe, or our universe for that matter, is free to wander right on through. I don’t think I need to highlight the problems that can arise from that, but in case I do, the Los Angeles Incident is first of the files you’ve been given.

So now these breaks are opening all over the world and everyone is in danger of the multitude of things that could come through. Of course some groups tried to hide it, cover the LA incident as a “Publicity stunt”. Ya, not a soul bought that, so I stepped in and took responsibility for it. I vowed in front of a worldwide news broadcast that I would fix the problem that I started. It was then that F.I.N.D.R was born, dedicated to the detection, containment and study of the Breaks and everything that comes through. But to do that, I needed a team. I’ve formed the Alpha Response Team, A.R.T for short, and I’m sure our Bios are in those files you’ve been given, but there’s a lot more work that goes into this place. Scientists, Maintenance workers, Animal handlers for the creatures we can’t send back, and even with tech we have, it’s a handful.

That’s where you come in.

Literally anything could come through, though luckily it’s mostly going to be restricted to movie monsters and videogame enemies.

Well that's a bit disappointing, there's a lot of potential there.

Incident Report:The Break opened up on a small island in the Seine river where an old Renault car factory once stood. Exploration into the Break reviled that the factory was still standing on the other side, and hidden in the lower levels was a highly advanced computer. This computer was, In fact, the supercomputer from the show Code Lyoko that housed the virtual world. Tests reviled it was still operational and free of Xana’s influence, so the A.R.T team began to utilize the technology for F.I.N.D.R. Simultaneously, surveillance of the surrounding area located Kadic Academy and the staff from the show, but the students, including the main characters, appear to have graduated years before.

Roughly 2 months after first contact, the Break began to weaken and threatened to close. It was agreed that this tech was too valuable to lose, so the A.R.T decided to test the Break Stabilization Device (B.S.D), a machine that would hopefully keep breaks open for longer than they would naturally. It worked as well as they could imagine, and experimentation with the Lyoko tech continued for an additional 3 months. It was then that the A.R.T caught wind that this version of the factory was slated for demolition. Another vote was passed, and the team began the proses of moving all machinery related to Lyoko to F.I.N.D.R. Once everything was gone and there was no trace anything was ever there, The B.S.D was deactivated, and the Break closed.

This is, without a doubt, one of the single most important Breaks that had ever happened. F.I.N.D.R wouldn’t be nearly as powerful today if it wasn’t for the technology we acquired. My only regret was that we were never able to find the Lyoko team. I would have loved to meet them. – Man-X

Hell yes! I always liked that show. You know, I wouldn´t mind living in this world. I mean it has an alien zoo and code lyoko technology. What more can you ask for?

I might need Dial's and Watchers permission on that one.

And a colorful cast of characters defending us all. Speaking of, I should write up those Bios.

Perhaps at some point. I’ll have to come up with an interesting scenario.
