Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

I think the general of the army in Mauritania is paranoid, I think this is his second coup. For the war between Russia and Georgia, I knew Russia was just planning to attack somewhere eventually. At least somewhere that was once part of the Soviet Union.
I wish I could give the public a true picture of the queen as she appeared at her best, but this would be impossible, even had she permitted a photograph to be taken, for her charming play of expression while in conversation, the character and intellect which were then revealed, were only half seen when the face was in repose. -Lilias Underwood when speaking of Empress Myeongseong

I hope the US doesn't get involved in either of these events. We can't even win a war against a small organization in a third world country, I can't even think about invading Russia, our military equal.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

It's not just Mauritania and Russia-Georgia, there are still things going on like Tibet trying to be independent, riots in Somalia, Isreal and the Arab states, India and Pakistan with their fights for Kashmir, what is going on with the world.

Dammed Tibetans. Worse than the Confederacy.

And dam those fools who think what they are told is what Buddhism is really like.

Dammed war in Georgia. I can’t see a good side or a bad side. And poor China, this was meant to be the year she showed the world the great power she was, and what do they get, Religious fanatics, who if they were Islamic everyone one would hate being supported by people in the west and nasty natural disasters.

And money and oil are becoming a issue. I just hope this is not another 1929.

Hardly. The Confederacy was never an independent kingdom. Tibet deserves freedom from Chinese oppression. <_<

I think Tibet is just asking for too much. The size is just too large for China to grant independence. They are even claiming parts of India as their own.

It would be interesting to see how China would develop without such a huge territory.

I agree that Tibet cannot be free. It's a ridiculous and unrealistic idea. I understand the need for democracy in our world, but there is also a need for imperialism and war; that's why I oppose the US getting involved in every damn war that ever happens anywhere. War pushes technology along and boosts the global economy; it's essential for the survival of any civilization. Even a pacifist needs to know when to lie down the pen and take up the sword.

Just as the confederates were subject to northern oppression.
Neither the USA or the PRC are perfect, they are just better than what was there.

If only we gone further in 1904 and made Tibet part of the empire. Nah, it would have probably gained independence in the 50’s and become a shit hole.

I suppose the current situation is the best for Tibet. Red China will hold it from becoming a Buddhist theocracy and as China slowly become more liberal, wishes to for a independent Tibet will decrease.

What's wrong with a Buddhist theocracy? Bhutan is a Buddhist theocracy and it's one of the most amazing places on Earth.

Well first of all any theocracy is bad. Even if a atheist one was set up it would be bad, because people should be left alone to chose there own stupid ways to waste their life.

And I don’t think the poor Hindus of Bhutan would agree with you. And of course they are powerless to effect change because the Buddhist government controls the flow of tourists and the only source of decent money in the nation.

Besides Buddhism is one of the most savage religions and very effecting in keeping people primitive.

“Oh what is that peasant? Oh your life is bad because you were bad in a past life, there is nothing you can do about it but be good here. What’s that? You want to improve your life here?
Well desire is the cause of all suffering. Yes even wanting clean water is evil, excuse me while I go back to my castles, the gold leaf is peeling again.”

Even if Buddhism was the peaceful chanting, incense burning thing it presents it self to the west to be then it would still be bad to have a theocracy based on it. Because it would be a theocracy.

The same way a benevolent, all round good dictatorship would still be bad. Because it is a dictatorship.

Technically a society that centers on atheism isn't a theocracy, since it isn't a religion (in fact, some religions are atheistic in nature, such as buddhism, so it is more a kind of philosophy than a religion). A better term would be "Atheist State".

And indeed I'm also not a fan of organized religion. I do acknowledge the fact that all human beings have a "religious impulse", and I would be a fool to not apreciate it, but theocracies only bring intolerance and opression

I was not talking about atheist societies. Those are generally similar to societies that have superstition, although there seems to be a correlation between atheist societies being more moral (if one takes crime rates and teen pregnancies to be indicators of morality.)

I postulated a state when atheism was enforced which would be no better than a theocracy.
