| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! The sun began to rise over the city of Fenburgh. The sky was painted a brilliant pink, and the land glowed like amber. Much of the city was still covered in shadow, from the towering sky scrapers that sprouted from it like massive concrete tree. The chilled waters of the North Pacific looked almost black from the shadow the city cast on them. Despite the peaceful quiet that pervaded the air, there were still people to be found- scurrying about the streets like little ants. One particular building stood out among the rest. The tallest building in the city- The Maxwell-Bryant Tower. Built in the 1950s, the building's floors housed many different facilities. Restaurants, law offices, an art museum, and even a few scientific laboratories. The top floor in particular had been reserved by an individual of a rather odd sort. ~{"Sir, I think it'd be wise to evacuate now!"}~ "You know, Oscar? I think you're right! C'mon!" Make that individuals. The two shouts were followed by a series of clicks and whistles and screams of steam. A man and a sphere appeared on the ceiling of the building. ~{"Sir, it seems we can't get away! We're not gonna make it!}~ "Oscar, when you've reached the top, the only place you can go," The man grabbed the sphere from the air and latched onto it. He approached the edge of the building and stepped up onto it. "is down!" The man leaped from the edge of the building, hurtling towards the ground in an escape plan that was nothing less than suicidal. The man hit the ground face first, spreading across the street with a splat. Technicolor bits of the man decorated the walls and windows of the building he'd jumped from, as though he were made of paint. The sphere was unscathed. ~{"Sir! Are you alright!?}~ The center of the 'paint-splatter' raised a fully intact arm with a thumbs-up gesture. The thumb pointed down into the splatter and into a mouth next to it. The mouth blew into the thumb as though it were a balloon, and the spatter began to inflate like a balloon. The splatter slowly began to take the shape of the man who'd made it. As the man made sure all of his body parts were properly inflated, a loud explosion came from the top of the building. It didn't sound like an real explosion, and more like the sound of a man yelling 'BANG!' "Oscar, next time you make pie, could you actually bother to check if it's one of my exploding pies or not? This is the third time this month. If it happens again, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to clean the blue-berry stains out of the walls." ~{"Sorry, sir."}~ "It's alright, Oscar. Now, since we're already out of the apartment, why don't you give me today's news?" ~{"Yes, sir!"}~ ~V SIX O CLOCK NEWS V{ Mysterious 'bloody vigilante' still on the loose. Local heroine Volume intends to capture him. Yet another public disturbance at the top floor of the Maxwell-Bryant Tower. Soviet Ambassador Bernei Molokovich to arrive in Fenburgh today. "}V SIX O CLOCK NEWS V~ “Well, well, well. This looks interesting. Sounds like today's a big day.” The man said with a grin. "Of course, being in the news for exploding pie isn't really my idea of hiding my experiments." The man snapped his fingers and pointed to the roof. "C'mon Oscar, let's go." The robot did as commanded and began floating up into the air. The man latched onto it, hitching a ride all the way back up. (And I’ll stop there. Before you try to kill me over that Rex, it's because Man-X started off the original SSU2, and I felt it wouldn't be right is we didn't start this off with him falling from a skyscraper. As for who the narrator is, it's the Clocksmith, an observer from outside of time and space and capable of manipulating both. But in this, he just narrates my posts. With this, I officially declare the SSU2 2.0 open!) Edited by Kamidio, Nov 25 2013, 02:12 AM.

Ikabod lay back smuggly, the city of Fenburgh is a nice shelter for his work. With a largely disused metro built during the 'boom' years and surrounded by beautiful isolated countryside it was perfect for him to hide in. He brushed past the plastic covering and into his lab; on the table in the centre of the room the next of his projects lay splayed out. Already the human body was straining as it attempted to reject the goat parts he had grafted on to it, but as his serums began to pump through the body he could see it stabilising. "The first of many." He muttered under his breath. He returned to his living area and sat in his arm chair, the worn leather enveloped him as he snuggled into it. Funny how someone could find such comfort in a dank place such as this, his library stood in stark contrast to the cold metal rooms and labs which make up the rest of his hideout. Ikabod enjoyed the challenge of his new setup, no longer did he have the advanced machinery the corporate and military labs used to give him. He was having to use more primitive methods to create his pets, more... messy methods. He glanced at his watch and noticed it had been four hours since he had last fed his newest awakened pet. He walked over to the fridge and pulled out a vaguely human leg and slung it over his shoulder. He descended to the room with the roars... |

Sheathwing stirred rom his sleep. The Suns rays hit him straight in the face. He blinked. Every morning since the... accident he went through the same routine. First the Sun gave him enough heat in order to function. When he managed to stand up he streched, arms, legs, wings, antennae; until he stopped feeeling dizzy. Sheathwing yawned, while the Sun glinted off his exosqueleton. He wore his usual ragged coat and large hat, both were in need of serious stiching. Today was a big day. Today he would abandon his night prowlings through dark streets and alleyways, and come out into the light. Sheathwing swallowed. Today could be the day his dream finally came true, or the day it shattered beyond repair. Clutching his hat on one hand, his antennea tasted the air. He steeled himself, put aside all fears and doubts, and lauched into the air. All of this would have been much more intimidating if he didn´t wobble so much... |
