| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Genomorphs is an idea that I've been tossing around for a while. It probably has its origins in my NeoSaur SPORE creations (which, in turn, inspired the mildly successful XenoCorp and possibly Genome Corporation RP sites). The basic idea is a fairly standard "mon"-type game, but with a twist- the creatures are all designed by their masters. A Genomorph consists of two separate organisms; the first is a small, worm-like creature called a Neurite. Neurites serve as the "brain" of a Genomorph, and are placed inside larger organisms called Somas to form a whole Genomorph. Somas are taken from one of three templates (Brute, Stalker, or Striker) and modified using DNA from various organisms, ranging from bacteria to complex animals. Armed with such abilities, Genomorphs are pitted against one another in battles for fun and fame. Fortunately for the Genomorphs, Neurites can easily switch into a new Soma if their current one is destroyed and don't really feel pain the way normal creatures do. The Somas themselves may be totally destroyed, but they have no central nervous system to speak of and so it's no worse than killing a plant. So yeah, those are the basics. There's also some background story stuff and specific rules I've though of, but I'll just leave it here for now. TL;DR, think miniature biological mecha controlled by worms. No one's quite sure about Somas, as they tend to die rather quickly. Neurites live as long as humans though. |

"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!" | |

Okay, I haven't worked out the combat mechanics yet (I'm leaning towards having two players tell their Genomorphs what to do while a third "referee" determines the outcome), but here's the outline for designing a Genomorph:

A quick note on the bonuses of each class: only Brutes can use heavy armor, only Stalkers can fly, and only Strikers can have tertiary weapons. |

They don't even need to be animals; you can use traits from literally ANY living organism. |

Here's my genomorph. Seth: Sources: Spotted Hyena, lion, lammergeier, poison dart frog, mongoose & cheetah. Class: Stalker. Bauplan: Lion. Primary weapon: Lion and hyena claws. Secondary weapon: Lammergeier beak. Tertiary weapon: n/a. Body covering: None. Abilities: Poisonous skin (Poisonous dart frog), reflexes (mongoose), speed (cheetah). Description: A beast with the back half of a spotted hyena, the front half and manes of a lion, the head and wings of a lammergeier, and the spots of a cheetah around the paws. It's a stealthy animal, only showing itself when it attacks. When his prey is weakened, he'll walk around it, play with it and taunt it with laughter like the laughter of a spotted hyena, before moving in for the final blow. Only one beast per player? |

Except humans. That's a big no-no. Besides, the only human trait that's worth using is intelligence, and that's determined by the Neurite, not the Soma. |
