Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

It was the atmosphere which was built and the everlooming presence of the enigmatic creatures. And when you finally saw them I was kind of in awe.

I cannot wait for the sequel, which has a much greater budget. Here's the teaser: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut5ZHPzagL8

Dude, this isn't fresh news. Toho said Godzilla wouldn't bee getting another movie until 2014, and a trailer was shown at ComiCon in 2012.

You could totally make a movie set in the Pacific Rim universe, solely about the Trespasser attack and nothing else. This... thing appearing, defying our understanding of a whole bunch of things, destroying stuff with incredible ease, the US military throwing absolutely everything they have at it as it wages destruction across San Francisco and the surrounding areas, getting so desperate as to call in other militaries for help, the difficult decision to use the nuclear option and finally the devastation and terror that would wreak...

Honestly I think Beacham and del Toro did a much better job at creating a extensive Star Wars-esque universe than Cameron did with Avatar. I mean, seriously, what is there to explore in Avatar? Earth is a dump and the Na'vi are oh-so-perfect Mary Sues who live in trees, mind-meld with dragons Ikran and occasionally shoot arrows at invading humans. But there's potentially so much to the world of Pacific Rim. Imagine what you would be thinking right now, if a gigantic monster staggered out of the ocean a few weeks ago, on August 10th? How would you feel? How would the world feel?

I would love to see the opening of the Kaiju War, T. Neo is absolutely right about Guillermo. He really has nailed a genuinely enthralling universe but then he does that in all his films. Just look at Pan's Labyrinth! I cannot wait for his next film Crimson Peak!

I particularly parts when movies like this show how one change has impacted all facets of life, like with the opening montage with the shoe advertisement or the gag on a live show, or the church in the skull. Surrogate did that as well, and say what you will about the plot, those parts were awesome.

While Pacific Rim is the best American Kaiju film to date. I say - best American Kaiju - because no one does Kaiju films better than the Japanese.

I still have high hopes that Pacific Rim will dethroned in May 2014 - when Legendary's Godzilla is released. As Godzilla is the true King of all Kaiju.

Assuming we're in the Pacific Rim universe? BUILD GIANT ROBOTS AND USE BOATS TO SWORDFIGHT THEM.

I disagree on Avatar. There's much to explore since its a whole new world on which we only saw a few pieces. There's also other moons in the system of interest (Cameron hinted on that). There's also other star systems with stories of their own (the movie hinted on that), and the Na'Vi could not be the only form of alien life encountered there so far. If you didn't like the story, that's fine. You can't trash an entire fictional universe just because you like another one better. I don't see much difference in worldbuilding or storyline between Pacific Rim or Avatar.
