| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. So, did any of you see it? What did you think of it? I liked it a lot, though there were definitely some things I had issues with (the Jaegers looked too heavy to be carried by just eight helicopters, and I would have liked to se the Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon do more). What's your opinion? |

I haven't seen it yet, but I've read a couple articles on it; the creators did some pretty interesting stuff. For example, the Kaiju and Jaegers move way too fast for their size; however, debris and such also falls faster to compensate. By the way, ignore the reviews which say it's a stupid, cheesy movie; they're missing the entire point of the film. All the reviews I've seen by fans of the genre have been universally positive. |

It's actually gotten pretty good reviews for a movie of its type. |

I can't wait for it. It'll be weird watching a movie with giant mechas fighting alien monsters, that doesn't have teen angst, mind rape, Freudian relationships and masturbation for once. I've watched way too much Evangelion haven't I? Edited by seascorpion, Jul 15 2013, 07:24 AM.

I just saw it, and it was very good. It was a bit weird they waited until Mako was an adult until she was allowed to pilot, and that they didn't ask Mothra to help, she's usually up for this sort of thing. It was nice to to see Burn Gorman, and a bit unexpected. Shame his character was so "British". Invert mode. Secret code: THE BRIT. Nothing ventured, nothing crumpets. Risking 3.33 spoilers, I checked the EVA wiki...I think I understand what's going on in that series. I'm worried I might ascend to another plane of reality or something. If you can't trust a kid with a driver's license, how could you trust her with saving the world?
Being that understanding generally precedes the apocalypse in that series, I'm more worried about you descending into oblivion (or tang, depending on the continuity). That being said, I'm sure 4.44 will prove all of us wrong. Only Anno knows what goes on in that mind... What little I've seen of this movie has piqued my interest, and I intend to see it as soon as finals let up. That being said, that they admit to fighting Kaiju is not earning it any points in my book and I'm increasingly of the feeling that it'll be a flashy mecha anime knockoff. As a fellow Evangelion fan, I have to ask you, El Squibbonator and lamna: without spoiling the movie for me, is this so? |

Knock off? God no, its a gushing love letter to mecha and Kaiju. It's more straightforward than Evangelion but if you like that then you'll probably like Pacific Rim. As in, Aliens are attacking our dimension with giant monsters, and we build giant robots to fight them. Not that two eggs/moons hit out planet when only one should have, so one was kept in suspension until the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, and the foetus in suspended animation exploded (but didn't) and the debris became unlimited by imagination and could assume any form they wishes, even screaming cubes. So we cloned the foetus that exploded (but didn't) and gave it power armour and a human soul to fight the offspring of the foetus thing, to stop it reaching the other foetus thing form which all life on earth originated, because if they did combine the being would be as powerful as the beings that created it. And because the soul used in the best clones robot thing is from the project leader's wife then his teenage son is most compatible with it, so he has to pilot one of the clone robots along with a clone of his mom (kinda) and some German girl. So basically its Jet Alone: The Movie. |

Saw it. Loved it. Wondered why the hell the wall was so thoroughly sucky when they could have attached turrets to it. |

They probably did, but it would be very difficult to mount thousands of heavy weapons all along the Australian coast, provide them with enough ammunition, and to man them all. Plus, the kaiju can approach from under the sea, so they probably only had moments to engage, and by the time they had gotten the first volley off, it was probably already though. |

They said it had been at the wall for an hour. Wasn't like it just broke through after coming right out, especially since it was just a Class 1. |

One of the best films I have seen this year, absolutely awesome and I really recommend it. I would happily pay to see a prequel revolving around the Kaiju Wars in the full, if only it had been a trilogy the idea of 30 Jaegers stomping around was just too awesome. And I would of liked to have seen more of the first attack in San Fransisco when they had to use conventional arms.
