| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. After I ran way crying trying to start my own RP in the same vein as the Cultural Evolution game I decided to get back to it with a fantastic piece. I want to include a variety of species and cultures and both keep it simple and not clichéd. Here is the map. Spoiler: click to toggle Currently the big Northernmost island is inhabited by Dwarves, who rule, the Finns, who enforce that rule and the Saami, who get seven shades of shit kicked out of them whenever they complain about being at the bottom of the pile. The big green island is inhabited by Elves. I'm not sure what to do with them, arrogant racists and arrogant perfect hippies have been done. I'll probably make them live only 200 or so years, and incapable of hybridizing with humans, or at least not producing very many fertile hybrids. The yellow islands are inhabited by Dragons, who are intelligent but rather possessive and straight forward, which can make them seem child-like. They also live with humans and act as their nobility, defending them in exchange for the humans doing all the things dragons can't. It's got a reputation as a place the oppressed can flee if they are desperate and willing to work. The dragon's don't care about your ideology or religion as long as they get their sheep tithe. On the "mainland" are the Human kingdoms. Once most of the island was united under an empire, the empire started to crumble under barbarian attacks, poor harvests, a bad economy and religious strife. The last Emperor decided that to turn things around he would conquer the dragon kingdom, plunder their gold and then use the dragons as soldiers to help restore his empire. The expedition was destroyed and the capital was razed. With no emperor, no capital and hardly any army left the empire collapsed in less than a decade. One province did manage to survive, mostly thanks to the corrupt governor having skimmed enough money to pay the local barbarians to fight for him rather than sack the place, and when the dust settled he found himself the most powerful and wealthy man left standing so just declared himself Emperor. That's the purple nation. Edited by lamna, Sep 18 2012, 12:43 PM.

Not sure what you mean by that. Human slavery is illegal throughout the Universal Empire. It's alive and well in the Shashka Khanate, while the Lechici Commonwealth is trying to wipe out serfdom in the former Muscov Tsardom. Goblin slavery is illegal in the Imperial Province, Maring and Neue Land. In other provinces it's up to discretion of the feudal lord. For now. Also for the wyverns, imagine something between a Fell beast and a Skybax. Edited by lamna, Oct 13 2012, 05:21 PM.

I met an Anders in Dragon Age: Awakening. He seemed like a douche so I let the chantry take him. Title: Baron Troop strength: 18,000 men Feel free to divide them up as you wish. 2 small ships and 2 middling ships 6 wyverns You also have one specialist, an Arlesian military engineer, skilled at designing modern fortifications and finding innovative ways to blow them up. Mr Silas Herren at your service. He's basically Vauban, but whether you'll have the money to use him effectively is another thing entirely. |

A Song of Ice and Fire is basically the War of the Roses combined with Ragnarök, this is the Thirty Years' War being smashed into the American Civil War. If you don't know much about it, the Thirty Years' War was hell. Think about the name. Thirty long years of war. People were born, lived and died knowing nothing but the war. 30% of Germans died in the war, in some areas half the population was killed off. Every time it looked like someone was about to win, someone would pull out some gambit or some foreign nation would intervene and it would keep going, and going and going. Take Wallenstein, a man who used the situation to make himself ruler of Friedland, the Emperor grew tired of his ambition and fired him, only to call him back after the Protestants won several major victorious. Wallenstein grew tired of the Emperor's treatment of him and considered allying with the protestants. He was assassinated, though the Emperor did not order it he richly rewarded his murderers. He rose to promise because he stole the Czech's treasury and ran to Vienna, where it was confiscated from him. He started out a protestant Czech. The amount of scheming will be up to the players, but I've created the game to make it easier. That's why you're playing as people, not countries. |

"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!" | |

Title: Count Troop strength: 15,000 men Feel free to divide them up as you wish. 2 small ships and one Great ship (38/40 guns) 4 wyverns You get one special unit, Allon Tyrneatlithar and his warship, a great ship called the Black Vengeance. He's an former elf pirate who decided to go legit. He is unparalleled in single ship actions and pretty good at fleet battle too. He has a century of experience. His ship is only six years old though, once the pride of the Tsar's inland navy, when Muscov collapsed, Allon captured her. Now I've decided. The Marks will be governed by Counts, the Provinces by Barons and the Grenzlands by Dukes. The rules are flexible though. Edited by lamna, Oct 14 2012, 07:10 AM.

Surely my title would be more like Lord Protector due to the more martial nature of the rule in Grenzland? Also what is the state of magic in the world? And that of alchemists? Plus what sort of 'monsters' inhabit this world other than wyverns? Edited by dialforthedevil, Oct 14 2012, 07:47 AM.

Duke is a title often awarded for martial prowess, such as the Duke of Wellington. There is a subtle magic woven into the world, and there are those who claim to be able to manipulate it, but there is not much proof of that. Not sure yet, nothing crazy.
No you did not.

A thousand foreign knights? Household knights I assume. Anyway mythological creatures, there are the wyverns, and there also a small number of unicorns. There are scattered small herds across the world, but the only big population is in a Imperial Park not far from the capital. The rest have been hunted, either for their horns or the challenge, they can be very dangerous game. There are also drakes, large dragon-like reptiles bigger than a polar bear that can breath fire, though only small blasts. They are occasionally tamed and used as guard dogs, but the few times they have been used in battle they panic and try to run away or kill everything. There are also sea serpents, but not much is known about them. There were dragons, but the last one died two centuries ago. And of course Orcs and Elves. |

I was thinking more as a local guard, a sort of police and or task force in the region. Probably should cut it by around half or more |

There are three kinds of knights, those that own their land and are lords in their own right, household ones that a nobleman pays for and houses himself, and Order knights that belong to a monastic or chivalric order, which looks after them. Whales, Mammoths and sabre-toothed cats are fine. The name Khan is a bit odd. These are large animals that people would be familiar with, why would they name them after the title of foreign kings? That would be like badgers being called presidents. Perhaps look up the Finnish names for various big cats? Sabre tooth does not work either, as there are no sabres yet. Edit, Rosen Ritter banner.
