| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Borre (pronounced like "boar") is a world I've been working on for well over five years now. It's a fantasy world, so there's gods and demons and the like. However, it's also driven by real biological processes such as evolution, and I've done my best to keep consistent rules for the world. However, it's gotten so big and complex at this point that I need somewhere to write my information down. I'm not sure of the speccing value of this project, so I'm keeping it in the Cafe Cosmique for now. Spoiler: click to toggle

Not enough stuff for me to give a comment, but it looks intriguing, especially considering the high value of your other works. I hope to see more. |

"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!" | |

It'll be updated fairly infrequently; it's just something for me to do in my spare time here. |

SISSALISK OTHER NAMES: Ophidian, Snakeman, Yuan-ti, Orochi PHYSIOLOGY: Sissalisk are a strange race that share features with both humanoids and snakes. They possess vaguely humanlike torsos and arms, although these are covered in scales. However, their heads are snakelike, and instead of legs, they possess a long, serpentine tail. Sissalisk come in many varieties, each one representing a different type of snake. Hence, "python" Sissalisk are large and muscular, whereas "cobra" Sissalisk possess extendable hoods and powerful venom. CULTURE: Although Sissalisk are widely believed to be untrustworthy and evil, they are actually a fairly peaceful race. Solitary by nature, they rarely live in large groups, preferring to live in small, loosely-knit clans that spend most of their time spread out over a wide area, only coming together to sleep. However, despite their lack of organization, Sissalisk have a fairly advanced level of technology, rivaling that of the humanoid races. They are the only race that possesses the knowledge of how to work with Scalestone, a greenish metal known for its light weight and flexibility. Scalestone daggers are considered to be some of the finest in the world. Edited by Russwallac, Oct 1 2012, 11:15 AM.

HIGH ELF OTHER NAMES: Kalidriel, golden elf, sun elf PHYSIOLOGY: High elves were the least humanlike of elves aside from wild elves. They stood around a head taller than most humans, although they were usually more lightly-built. Their facial features were sharply angled, and their skin and hair, and eyes were golden or yellow in color (hair was usually darker than skin, and eyes were lighter). They were closely related to both dark elves and wild elves. CULTURE: The high elves (or Kalidrieli in Drielic) built a massive empire during the early part of the Fourth Age. This empire, known as the Kalidrielic Empire, was known for conquering and enslaving any non-elf races in encountered, but also for possessing an astonishingly equalized and fair society for its elven citizens. The Kalidrielic Empire ruled much of Vodania for hundreds of years, until a human faction, the Vodanian Empire, appeared. The Vodanian Empire began a slow war against the high elves, encouraging slave revolts gradually conquering their lands. Eventually, the Kalidrielic Empire fell, giving the Vodanian Empire absolute control over the Vodania's eastern half. What became of the high elves after this is unknown; a living high elf hasn't been seen since the middle of the Fourth Age. |

MORSOTH TITLES: the Mystery, the Keeper of Secrets, the Tainted One CHARACTERISTICS: Morsoth is the god of mystery and secrets, and is considered to be the most alien and aloof of all the gods. Legend has it, that during the war with the Elder Beings, Morsoth was tainted, receiving a tiny fraction of a Being's power. this changed him, making him very different from the other gods. He has knowledge and abilities far beyond theirs, and never directly or indirectly affects the mortal planes. DEPICTION: Morsoth is rarely depicted in art, but is sometimes shown as an empty set of black robes or a faceless head floating in midair. More commonly, only his godly symbol is shown. FOLLOWERS: Morsoth has few followers, although some practitioners of eldritch magic pay tribute to him. There was once an order of monks known as the Blind Brothers who worshiped Morsoth, but they disappeared during the Fourth Age. |
