The Missu remind me of the Astro People (at least I think that was their name) from Nemo Ramjet's All Tomorrows, a descendant of the human race that hollowed out asteroids to use as refuge from a god-like race that wanted to destroy humanity.

Over the course of millions of years, they lost their human form and became archailects, being the most advanced race in the galaxy. They were ever aware of the Qu (the race that attempted to destroy them), and planned to destroy them if they ever encountered them.

Despite being so powerful, they were very reclusive. Just like the Missu, they kept to themselves. They had no desire to interact with other sapient species.

Also, how do the Thelosians support themselves with their exoskeleton alone? Do they also have an internal skeleton?

I've heard of and even read some of Nemo Ramjet's All tomorrows. Pretty interesting stuff. However I never read, or at least don't remember reading, the part about the astro people so the similarities between them and the astro people are purely coincidental. I was actually surprised by the similarities you pointed out. Concerning the Thelosians, I believe they do have an internal skeleton for support. Can an organism have both an endo and exoskeleton?

Planet: Dejhan
Star: F-class
Mass: 2.51 EM
Density: 1.14 ED
Surface Gravity: 1.48
Climate: With a southern ocean as the only large body of water, most of the planet's land mass is a vast desert that revives little to no rain fall annually. The only change in habitat exists around the border of the southern ocean and any inland lakes.
Sentient life: Jangaal
description: Millions of years of natural selection in the central desert has created one of the hardiest species in existence. Sharing characteristics with reptiles and arachnids, the Jangaal are massive, 540 kg, 2.4m tall, bipeds with eight limbs; two powerful legs and three pairs of muscular arms. The legs are bird-like with four evenly placed toes that allow the Jangaal's feet to act as an extra pair of hands. The three pairs of arms are evenly located around the hexagonal thorax which in turn is supported by a powerful torso. Each arm has a three fingered hand and all of the fingers and toes have sharp, curved nails and spatulae tipped setae underneath them (just as in geckos). Combined, these adaptations allow the Jangaal to climb on virtually any surface inspite of their weight and the effects of gravity. Instead of being located at the very top of the thorax, the head and neck of the Jangaal are located just above the front center of the thorax. The neck itself is about 2.5 times the length of the head which itself is 18cm long. Compact, theirs heads have two eyes covered with a dark, transparent eyelid, two large nostrils that can close shut during a sandstorm, and a mouth that is divided into three parts. An upper jaw, and two mandibles that form the lower jaw when relaxed. All three mouth parts have menacing teeth with the lower mandibles sporting the largest; in particular an 18 cm canine on both. Along with tough, reptilian hide, the Jangaal also possess thick armor plates that cover the back, forearms and tarso-metatarsus.

I'll continue the info in the next post (for anyone who is still fallowing) because I have a lot to say about these guys.

Jangaal info continued

Description: Some of the Jangaal's most impressive biological characteristics are their immune system and their regenerative abilities. They can survive and recover from devastating injuries and infections that would certainly kill most other species and they can completely regrow certain body parts such as fingers. Another factor that ensures their survival is their high reproductive rate. A single mother can lay up to six eggs per clutch. Though some paternal instinct is shown, the offspring are immediately thought how to survive on their own as they will be tested later in life.
Culture: Though as fierce as they appear, the Jangaal are far from unintelligent. 800,000 years (this is how long thier species existed) of surviving in their harsh desert environment has taught them how to make the most of the resources available to them. This had lead them to develop a culture based on the concept of survivalism and strength. Even when they migrated to more favorable lands bordering the southern ocean, the Jangaal refuse to lose the characteristics that took millions of years to develop. To insure that their species stays strong and the weak are filtered out, each Jangaal at the age of puberty must go through a rite of passage where they are drugged and left out in a remote area in the desert with only a hunting knife and a canteen of water. The goal is to survive in the desert for ten days and then find their way back. of all who partake in this rite of passage, less than a third of them usually come back. They find little interest in technology or scientific knowledge unless it insures their survival such a improvement in weapons or tools for tracking and fortifying shelter.

Sorry if my description and culture sections are a bit sloppy. I'm trying to formulate these from the top of my head. BTW, the Jangaal are by far my favorite alien race i imagine. They are sorta like a cross between Tkarks and Korgan. Tell me what you think if anyone is still following.

Planet: I'yeenean
Star type: G-type
Mass: 2.17 EM
Surface gravity: 1.29 EG
Climate: Do to its distance from its parent star, more than 85% of I'veenean's surface is covered in ice. The only bare land is a green belt which is located at the equator. The planet is witnessing some warming due to greenhouse emissions in recent decades, but it is hardly enough to create a major impact.
Sentient life: Horeth
Description: Stocky, 2m tall digitigrade bipeds, the Horeth share characteristics of both mammals and insects (like most other lifeforms on I'veenean). Their bodies are completely covered in thick fur-like setae, including the palms of their hands and the soles of their feet, with a waxy exoskeleton underneath(as well as an endoskeleton for support). Both hands and feet have five digits with large, hooked claws or gripping on ice. Their long heads form an almost cone shaped with a pair of short, forward facing tusks, and four toothed mouth at the end of the cone (their is a gap between the two larger lower teeth that the two smaller upper teeth fit between). The heads house a long proboscis that injects digestive fluids into food substances then sucks of the digested mush (believed to be an adaptation for eating meat that have become frozen). Instead of nostrils, the Horeth have two, jointed antennae located at the mid section of their heads. Near the top of head (where the back of the skull meets the base of the neck) are tow pairs of round black eyes with the pair closer to the mouth larger larger than the second pair.
Culture: Having spent most of their history as tribal people, the Horeth have made some significant progress in their last two centuries. This increase in progress was made possible through permanent settlements in the green belt where conditions are much less demanding. The development of steam punk-like technology has enabled the construction of vehicles, such as cars, blimps, even construction mechs, as well as skyscrapers and communications technologies. As a species, the Horeth are known for taking bold risks, a neccesity during their tribal days, and this boldness may have contributed to their progression.

I only have two or three more alien species I want to post here. For this one I'll skip the planet and climate because they are unknown in the Star traveler universe. This species is a supposedly extinct one.

Sentient life: Akurian
Description: Only a few depictions are given with the best, physical description coming from archeological sites on Thelos and information of their biology from the Akurian artifact from C-2G. They were impressivly tall bipeds that stood roughly 5m tall (this was obtain through genetic engineering and implants). Though details are sketchy, they were most likely digitigrades and had five fingered hands. Their sensory organs were located on their backward crescent-shaped heads while their feeding apparatus was located on their their protruding chest in the form of five pairs of probosces that retract in openings running down the very front of the chest when not in use. Said sensory organs consist of seven eyes (three simple eyes on the forehead and two pairs of round, lensed eyes similar to those of the Horeth) and five slits that run down the downward crest of the head. These slits are use for smell and vocalization; controlled by a lung-like air sac within the body. The most notable biological feature of Akurians is that they shared characteristics of both plants and animals, namely being both phototrophs and heterotrophs. A benefit of being photosynthetic is that they can go extensively long periods without food and lack the need for true lungs and oxygen would be produce directly in their bodies. Though not much information has been recovered on this, the Akurians were most likely Allogamous, though their method of reproduction is unclear. Even before they had technology, Akurians were exceptional long lived compared to most other species in the galaxy. Their original life expectancy is known but at the prime of their civilization they were able to extend it to over 1200 years. The archeological sites on Thelos depict them as having wing-like structures but it is unknown if these were biological or some form of technology.
Culture: All that is known about Akurian culture is recovered from the four known artifacts in existence. One thing that can be determined is that their civilization spanned the known galaxy as the artifacts were found on planets that were located in very different regions of the galaxy. They are so far apart that they would never had known of each other's existence (except for the Missu). What can also be determined from the artifacts are the kinds of technology they Akurians developed. Each of the four artifacts contains information about specific forms of technology and has enabled the species that discovered them to develop those technologies. The artifact on Irum contains data on synthetic biology and robotics. The one on C-2G possesses information on quantum and warp technologies. Thelos's artifact taught its inhabitants about advanced weaponry and mechs and the one on Orderith has led to the development of implant and medical technologies. It is uncertain whether the Akurians were intentionally playing a role in the history of these planets or not. Regardless, the Akurians were an influential race and if the information from the artifacts are accurate, they were not only the first sentient race in the galaxy (emerging approx. 5 billion years ago) but also the longest lasting with their last and greatest civilization last 10 million years before their mysterious extinction.
