| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! If we could start a breeding program that would mean we had food for the livestock, hence we don't need them. SOYLENT GREEN IS NONSENSICAL! |

That makes no sense. I should have pointed this out to you earlier, but if we actually did keep damaging the ecosystem to the immense extent that you seem to be implying for your scenario we'd actually die out long before everything else. Certain macro-organism groups such as insects are so resistant to extinction that anything extreme enough to wipe them out would be guaranteed to wipe out every single vertebrate including humans. And as for micro-organisms, well short of blowing up the whole planet, there's no way you're gonna get rid of them. The only way humans could survive your scenario (assuming it could even happen) would be to leave Earth and colonise one or more other worlds. If they stay though, then they will all die, while many other life forms will survive and re-establish fertile ecosystems. But then it wouldn't really be a sterile Earth. Also, you have yet to give even an attempt at an explanation for how this "sterile earth" scenario of yours is meant to even come about. Just saying we keep killing more and more stuff is not good enough. But then again, no matter what you have cause the extinction of all life, if humans remain on Earth, then they will not be the last ones to die. As such, my suggestion to you would be for you to just drop this whole "sterile earth" idea. Edited by Tartarus, May 17 2012, 02:16 AM.
