There was a bit of contraversy over the human version a few years back... Apparently, some of the bodies may have been from Chinese prisoners who hadn't been told that their bodies were being given to science.

The human version always struck me as a macabre and purposefully controversial form of entertainment, but this does look interesting from a zoological viewpoint.

Yeah the human one seemed to be more "Look how controversial we are!", but this seems a bit more interesting, especially the blood vessel ones. Can't help but thinking it would smell though. It probably does not but it just looks a bit manky.

Speaking "Look how controversial we are!", have any of you seen Channel Four's Inside Nature's Giants? I've mentioned it several times.
Come on, tell me you don't want to know what's inside that.

While looking for pictures, apparently PBS is showing it. I found this silly trailer. No it's not the dissection of interesting animals by a vet, a whale anatomist and the expert of the week. It's and extreme adventure to unlock the secrets of nature's most radical animals! Oh America, is there anything you won't try to sell with crazy hype?

To be fair, I found Inside Nature's Giants interesting... kind've.

Also, that advert is hilarious.

Indeed, this is exhibition is dangerously close to art, the stuff that ruins your visit to a museum.

I can't help thinking of a cheesy cartoon where Dawkins sends the team off around the world to dissect animals, and the team walking away from an exploding whale, not looking at it.

I liked Inside Nature's Giants.

I like the look of this expedition, but plastinated animals make me feel a bit disturbed. Plastinated humans make me feel a bit sick.

Having seen the human BodyWorld I can tell you it was an amazing resource from both a scientific and artistic standpoint. I even still have one of the /massive/ books full of photographs and diagrams from the exhibit, showing the anatomy of people in various positions and discussing the process by which bodies are plastinated.

Sure, some people may be grossed out by plastinated bodies of all types, but lets be honest. It's awesome, and a much better resource for anatomy than 2D pictures, and those of us with half a stitch over our gag reflex find it pretty fascinating. I could've spent hours at BodyWorlds if I'd been able to, just re-drawing and reading every bit of information.

;-; I wish I were in London. I'd get out my sketchbook and be neck-deep in animal carcass in a moment.

Not sure if I could handle the wangs myself. Eyes and genitals ruin anatomy for me, animals are one thing bit I don't think I could look if it was a human.

Especially if said humans weren't exactly aware of how their bodies were going to be used...

Bah, meat's meat. It should revert to the state upon death without prior arrangement.

Dood, the bodies are encased in this embalming gel, they dont smell. And I went to the human body thing in Valladolid, pretty interesting. They said that most of the bodies were from Germany.

I disagree with that, I think the body of a person ought become family property upon death. Only becoming state property if all family members refuse to take ownership.

I tend to think of myself as a bit of a squeamish fellow, but remembering how happily I'd slash up dead frogs and pigs I hesitate to consider that a full fact...

Fakey, stop being a nutjob.

Anyway, while I agree that a dead body is dead, and therefore doesn't really matter, it still seems wrong to use the bodies of executed prisoners for something like this.
