Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

A Very Busy Galaxy Started out as the ultimate cross over between sci-fi universes. And was an rp for a short amount of time.

Here is an overview of the main powers of the galaxy:

The UNSC

The Citadel Alliance

The Tau Empire

The Covenant

The Sith Empire

There are thousands of other more minor powers in this galaxy which I shall go into if you guys are interested? Any alien species suggestions I will try to include although a wikipedia article would help :) Also would you guys want to restart the rp?

Maybe it's a side effect of the Combine teleports, or perhaps they do it when they find a universe they think might be a threat.

You should name the planet after somewhere important in historical trade, perhaps a city on the Silk Road or somewhere involved in Trans-Saharan trade. Samarkand, Kokand, Agadez, Timbuktu. You could give it the name "Most Serene Republic of X" like the old Italian trading city-states. Venice, Genoa, Lucca.

Dejima is also a good name for somewhere out on the edge, dealing with unpleasant foreigners. Or you could call it New Singapore, create some back story of Singapore becoming a powerful Thalassocracy.

Would an disgraced Alliance/UNSC officer fit in well?

I think the Anti-Spirals from TTGL should be here.

But surely a tyranid thing would be the worst thing possible to enter into a galaxy you are trying to conquer. (Oh don't worry guys I have figured out where the zerg come from and the flood)

I like the idea of New Singapore, this can originally be an old human colony which got isolated from the UNSC, now has large alien populations as well. A rich trading post, but struggles in recent years as other border worlds begin to embrace slavery. I do like the idea of a very powerful Singapore, perhaps they were one of the first to send private individuals to space. They ran the first few commercial colonies before Weyland Yutani caught on.

Of course thats pretty awesome! Could act as first mate? Unless you fancy being captain?

No Gurren. Doesn't make sense in the rest of the setting.

What I meant was, if the Combine find a universe that's too dangerous to conquer, they let tyranids in to get rid of any threats. It writes off an entire universe for them, but it's and effective way to keep anyone else from being able to teleport. Like salting they earth, you can't use it, but nobody else can.

On one hand I'd really like to be captain, on the other, I'm pretty shitty at interpersonal RPs so letting me lead it would probably be a bad idea. XO/First mate sounds like a better post, if I get bored or can't cut it, you can get rid of the character without too much disruption.

Maybe Indonesia collapsed and Singapore took over some of their territories directly and dominated most of the successor states. Or maybe they could franchise themselves like in this, with New Singapore's official name being Singapore 4 or something.

Also if you're willing to have a little alternate history, you could have Singapore keep Christmas Island, it was part of the Straits Settlement right up until 1955. There were plans to build a spaceport on the island, and while they were put on hold by the current economic troubles, it could be a very useful place for a more powerful Singapore.

Okay I like that, but perhaps something went majorly wrong and a mistake designated this Universe as a wipe out, but the invasion fleet had already set off.

Alright then we have our first mate, who else is interested in playing?

Im intrigued by the snippet of Alternate History, and I think its safe to say that the Franchised Singapore is canon.

Now I am going to cover the many different ways a ship might travel across the galaxy (Please note phlebotiunium is in effect)

Mass Effect Relay
The network of relays are a vast network of ancient structures which connect most major systems to each other, they were built by a civilization known only as the precursors. They create safe channels through the warp essentially acting in a manner similar to a train tunnel. Travel is reduced to merely a few hours from one point to another, but one mass relay only links to another. Mass Relays are generally used by civilian traffic and supply lines. Each point is heavily guarded to prevent pirates and other rogues from using them. Mass Relays are vital to a nations economy.

Independant FTL drives
Truly gigantic starships do not need to use mass relays, they can fit the massive power generators needed to create their own channel in warp, because the ships do not need to constantly sustain the channel they can simply jump from one point in space to another and do not have to wait as long as a mass relay. Fleets use a specialised ship called a key ship to create the channel so smaller class ships such as frigates can slip through as well. Allowing a fleet to stick together in an attack. Although due to the less regulated nature of the jump, enemies employ special weapons called Klickers which detect ripples in the warp and fire pulses at the ship. This cuts off the channel and forces the ship back into the material universe otherwise they risk being trapped in the warp and being stranded.

Psykers
For the truly brave this was once the only way to navigate the warp. Psykers are mutant indivduals who can actually look upon the chaos of the warp and watch its currents, thus allowing the ship to navigate through. This is perhaps the longest and most strenuous route. This is the method most rebels and pirates use to travel, since the Mass Relays are guarded by huge battleships and they do not have the technological skill to mantain the huge reactors of the Independant drives they are forced to use psykers. If the psyker makes one small mistake the ship could slip out of the 'safe' warp and be lost forever. Rumours of ghost ships are abound of where the psyker accidentally misjudged a current. Some rumour that the already fragile mind of the psykers can be changed swiftly by long warp journeys (72 hours) and they may intentionally throw the ship of course.

Maybe they do that but then find out someone has something they really, really need.

If you need any recommendations I can find plenty of underdeveloped places that could really benefit from a Singapore. Mafia island, the Lamu Archipelago, Cheduba Island all seem like good candidates.

Perhaps the timeline could go something like this.

So is there a short range slow FTL for travel between relays for smaller craft?

Indeed there is they are booster cannons, able to make small instant jumps. Kinda like leapfrogging.

I am liking where this Singapore is going, but Earth history is sketchy and vague at best. Our knowledge of Singapore survives so well because of the fact they managed to just about slap their brand on everything before getting out there.

I meant like the stuff in Mass Effect for going between systems, it's slow across galactic distances but works well enough. Also, I'm going to get presumptuous and write an entry for a member of the Alliance, let me know what you think.

No Gurren. Doesn't make sense in the rest of the setting.
But Anti-spiral/Reaper/Terminator/Dalek four-way battle for the most evil of all evils!

Also, Gurren isn't supposed to make sense. Considering the Anti-Spirals have multi-dimensional whatevers, it could work.

Daleks and Reapers would destroy a Terminator easily. These are the beings that, fought the Timelords in a stalemate and have conquered the galaxy a minimum of 700 times.

And if it's not supposed to make sense, why would you recommend putting it somewhere making sense matters? Besides we can't have everything that people like. It would be cool to see an Evangelion going up against a Reaper, but that would't make a lot of sense in a space opera setting.

Actually yeah we shall have a mass effect style between systems makes more sense really.

YES LAMNA I LOVE IT!!!!! Perhaps they could eventually turn out like an entire civilization built on the same ideals as Andrew Ryan's Rapture? A bunch of people trying to escape oppression and building a truly 'free' nation. Then it begins to decay....

Im just thinking, should the prawns have a homeworld? Or should they be the equivalent of intergalactic hobos just with some pretty extreme tech? I like them being forced to live in the UNSC.

Also Im unsure about what role the Geth should play?

I think the Geth should be trying to isolate themselves, working towards the same objectives they were in ME. However, they do send advanced platforms to the Citadel etc to make sure they would get assistance if they ever came to need it.

Also they should have one of the biggest, if not the biggest, fleet in the galaxy :)

I would actually like the Prawns to be more that just intergalactic hobos. Anybody up for a human invasion on a decaying homeworld?
"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!"

I don't think going quite as far as Rapture would be right, aside perhaps for some internal experiments. Of course you can do what you like with the idea, but I pictured a somewhat fragile federation made up of lots of disparate peoples. The Torch is a constitutional monarchy founded by ex-slaves, New Orkney is a cooperate world with a board of directors running it and citizens being shareholders in the nation, etc.

Something as drastic Rapture would have to be an isolated experiment, perhaps a distant space station or colony.

The Geth should just try to keep their heads down. They ought to be kingmakers, not very powerful on their own, but if you can get them to join you they can turn the tide.

Alright then, although a rapture planet or space station is a must.

I like the sound of the FPA :)

Watcher- I kinda want the Prawns to be semi-loyal to the humans, but almost have no other choice. Maybe the Ood would be more fitting of a homeworld invasion? It could be a corporate adventure by Weyland Yutani?

Geth are going to be highly isolationist, but are often involved in 'liberating' AI. Meaning that they might intervene to help out any synthetics they believe are in trouble thus creating problems with other races.
