| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Its a massive Sci-Fi cross over universe to say the least. This post should help clear everything up ![]() Here are the Main Factions of the Galaxy: The UNSC Spoiler: click to toggle The Citadel Alliance Spoiler: click to toggle The Tau Empire Spoiler: click to toggle The Covenant Spoiler: click to toggle The Sith Empire Spoiler: click to toggle The Sanghelios Dominion Spoiler: click to toggle Batarian Hegemony Spoiler: click to toggle The Scrin Spoiler: click to toggle The Eldar Spoiler: click to toggle The Asgard Spoiler: click to toggle Free Planets Alliance Spoiler: click to toggle Geth Spoiler: click to toggle The Go'uld Empire Spoiler: click to toggle Ultramar Spoiler: click to toggle The Locust Spoiler: click to toggle ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Terminus Systems are a region of space not claimed by any of the major empires, instead it is a mess of small pirate kingdoms, ork warlords and ravenous hordes of other monstrosities. Here are some of the main species inhabiting this godawful stretch of space: Krogan Krogans are a brutal species hailing from the world Tuchunka, initally it seemed they were doomed after their species initiated a nuclear holocaust when they somehow split the atom; but Salarian Scientists discovered them and helped uplift them to help fight in the war against the Covenant. After their upliftment scientists were horrified how quickly the Krogans were reproducing and spreading across the galaxy, thus the genophage was created to slow their growth. Now the Krogans are a species verging on extinction, with Tuchunka as their last stronghold. Many old battle hardened Krogans can be found across the galaxy working for various mercenary companies even the infamous human BlackWater. Orks If there were ever a species to exceed the Krogans bloodlust it would be the orks. Their origins are currently unknown but some say they were created by the forerunners during the Prothean-Forerunner War which lead to the extinction of both species. Orks have little concept of ownership and see that if they can take something then it is rightfully theirs. Thus they constantly land on already settled planets and begin taking any resources and plunder any settlements. They are a menace across the galaxy but by the time of play, the orks have been pushed back into the Terminus systems. Although constant raids by the nearby Sith Empire are required to cull their numbers. Many worlds bear the scars of orbital bombardment as Imperial Fleets or Covenant Navies have attempted to eradicate ork settlements. Jackals Jackals are a vicious and conniving species which was once a member of the Covenant but quickly left in droves after the Covenant lost the War. In retaliation for this act the prophets glassed the homeworld of the Jackals and the remainder of their population fled into the Terminus. There they quickly filled the role of pirates rather aptly often joining the crews of other species. Although many Jackals are being permitted to live among Citadel species as their talents in sharpshooting have not gone unnoticed. Yautja Known by humans as Predators, these fierce and noble warriors hail from the world Yautja Prime. A world located in the deep in the heart of the Terminus. Predators are a highly advanced species whose culture seems to rival the Protheans and Forerunners in terms of age, one of their single ships could take on a fleet of Tau battleships and win. Although they are not interested in war nor any galactic affairs whatsoever. Instead they simply seek the hunt, often landing on worlds and hunting down anything they deem as worthy. Be it a Krogan Warlord, Xenomorph Queen, Tau Ethereal etc. Most races do not even bother trying to persue the Predators due to their advanced cloaking technologies and the fact that they always wait to ambush their persuers. Predators do not understand the concept of boundaries and even have broken on to the Citadel and murdered an Asari Matriarch. Quarians Another species fleeing from a devastated homeworld, the quarians once were a member of the Citadel Alliance until they created the geth. Sentient machines which rebelled against their overlords. The Geth pushed the Quarians into the Terminus Systems, now with Rannoch deep inside the Geth Quarantine zone the Quarians were forced into exile. After trying to settle on many worlds each colony resulted in thousands of deaths from Ork raiders, Flood outbreak and other nightmares. Eventually the Quarians were forced to take a radical options thus the migrant fleet was born. Now the Quarians travel across the Systems searching for resources while fighting off pirates and alien infestations. The Narn The Narn are a people that have suffered for a very long time indeed. Long ago the Krogan invaded their world, the Narn had only just started their industrial revolution when the the bombs started falling. The Narn resisted fiercely, and the Korgan eventually resorted to nuclear weapons to put down the never-ending revolts. By the time the Genophage forced the Krogan to withdraw, the planet was a radioactive wasteland. The Citadel aided their recovery but the Narn have become wary of aliens and never tried to join the Citadel Alliance. This isolationism cost them dear, while the Covenant did not take direct interest in them, their Jackal mercenaries did, pillaging the planet until the Civil War forced them to move on. This was the start of the brief Narn Golden Age. The Narn rebuilt and reached for the stars, founding the colonies of Shi, Dross and Zok. The Narn were well on their way to becoming a major player in galactic politics when the Batarians invaded. The Batarian Hegemony, hemmed in by the Sith Empire and Terminus Systems turned to the Narn Regime for living space. Decades before there had been a failed Batarian plantation on Dross and the Hegemony used this as a justification for war. Though deception the Batarians got the Narn to move the bulk of their fleet to Zok. There the Narn fleet was decimated by an unknown force. Batarian propaganda claims this was carried out by the Hegemony Navy, but intelligence suggests the Batarians simply did not have enough ships to carry out this attack. The entire Narn fleet, and the colony of Zok was utterly destroyed and so no recordings of the battle remain. While the Narns were engaged the Batarians attacked Narn Prime with the bulk of their fleet, including all nine dreadnoughts. The Batarians bombarded the planet from orbit with their mass-accelerator cannons. In a few hours between 700 million and 1.4 billion Narns were killed. What was left of the Kha'Ri, the Narn Regime's government, surrendered unconditionally. Since their conquest the Batarians have ruled Narn with an iron fist, enslaving many surviving Narn. Under Batarian law less than 10,000 Narn have a right to life, all others may be killed with impunity. For every Batarian killed by a Narn, one hundred Narns are killed, including the perpetrators family. This has not discouraged the Narn, who refuse to be broken and continue to resist in every way they can. Before the fall of of Narn Prime, several hundred thousand Narns escaped. Eventually their found sanctuary in the Kingdom of Torch, a human system in the Free Planets Alliance. The Kingdom of Torch was founded by former slaves and was sympathetic to their cause. As well as the planet Torch, the Kingdom also posses a under-inhabited moon, Beacon. Here the Kingdom set up a refugee camp, which they eventually ceded to the Narn, to allow their nation to continue to exist. On Beacon Narn escaping the Hegemony can find a home, money and weapons can be supplied to the resistance and Narn culture can be preserved. It may take a millennium, but the Narn will force the Hegemony off their world, and they will have their vengeance. Necrons An extinct species of symbiotic machine aliens, they appear to be humanoid from the few skeletal husks found in the various tomb worlds which have been left behind. Most of them date to around the beginning of the Galactic Dark Ages and built in the ruins of various other civilizations. More and more even older necron tombs are being found across the Milky Way located deep inside the crusts of many civilized worlds. The existence of the necrons is highly classified and most tombs upon discovery are resealed for unknown reasons. Tyranids Of all the infectious races to inhabit the galaxy none is more terrifying and mysterious. Nobody really knows where they have come from. Although they definitely aren't originally from the Milky Way, they appear in huge warp storms and burst out and strip nearby worlds of everything. Nearly all governments attempt to keep the existence of the tyranids as classified and instead attribute the attacks to the less dangerous zerg, although this is becoming increasingly difficult. Since Tyranid burstings are actually occuring outside of the Terminus Systems. They are ruled by a being known as the Hive Mind (the term being is subjective), which is incredibly intelligent and posseses a cunning by which we have never seen. Most military strategists predict that eventually the whole galaxy will succumb to the Tyranids, we cannot stop the tide of tooth and tendrils, we can only slow it down. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Although there are many different companies and corporations in the Milky Way here are some of the most prominent in the FPA and Terminus Systems: Weyland Yutani Spoiler: click to toggle Multi-National United Spoiler: click to toggle Umbrella Corporation Spoiler: click to toggle Soylent Corporation Spoiler: click to toggle Cyberdyne Systems Spoiler: click to toggle Tyrell Corporation Spoiler: click to toggle ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here are the methods of travel in Universe: Mass Effect Relay The network of relays are a vast network of ancient structures which connect most major systems to each other, they were built by a civilization known only as the precursors. They create safe channels through the warp essentially acting in a manner similar to a train tunnel. Travel is reduced to merely a few hours from one point to another, but one mass relay only links to another. Mass Relays are generally used by civilian traffic and supply lines. Each point is heavily guarded to prevent pirates and other rogues from using them. Mass Relays are vital to a nations economy. Independant FTL drives Truly gigantic starships do not need to use mass relays, they can fit the massive power generators needed to create their own channel in warp, because the ships do not need to constantly sustain the channel they can simply jump from one point in space to another and do not have to wait as long as a mass relay. Fleets use a specialised ship called a key ship to create the channel so smaller class ships such as frigates can slip through as well. Allowing a fleet to stick together in an attack. Although due to the less regulated nature of the jump, enemies employ special weapons called Klickers which detect ripples in the warp and fire pulses at the ship. This cuts off the channel and forces the ship back into the material universe otherwise they risk being trapped in the warp and being stranded. This is what the Barlowe is powered by. Psykers For the truly brave this was once the only way to navigate the warp. Psykers are mutant indivduals who can actually look upon the chaos of the warp and watch its currents, thus allowing the ship to navigate through. This is perhaps the longest and most strenuous route. This is the method most rebels and pirates use to travel, since the Mass Relays are guarded by huge battleships and they do not have the technological skill to mantain the huge reactors of the Independant drives they are forced to use psykers. If the psyker makes one small mistake the ship could slip out of the 'safe' warp and be lost forever. Rumours of ghost ships are abound of where the psyker accidentally misjudged a current. Some rumour that the already fragile mind of the psykers can be changed swiftly by long warp journeys (72 hours) and they may intentionally throw the ship of course. The USS Barlowe Matching the size and design of a UNSC Frigate, but with the extra budget New Singapore has due to its great wealth it is a great deal more powerful than any other ship its size. It has an independant FTL drive which is powered by Tiberium thus requring it to be refueled rather than the supermassive fusion reactors onboard dreadnought class ships. The weapons systems at the current times are not operational and it was decided that the crews experts should decide on its armaments. The ship hosts a full medical bay, private quarters for around 200 men. Cargo bay containing a few pelican dropships as well as some MAKO assault vehicles. On board are two teams of combat engineers and 150 marines. The ship is overseen by a HAL-9000 AI, called HERA. Right now the ship lacks senior officers and recruitment will follow shortly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Playable species: Asari-Mass Effect Drell Elcor Hanar Human (Could be from UNSC, Citadel, Sith etc. ) Salarians Turians Volus Batarians Geth Krogans Quarians Vorcha Yagh Tau- Warhammer 40k Kroot Prawn- District 9 Yautja- Predator Elite-Halo Brute Jackal Grunt Replicant-Blade Runner Hutt (Won't have much fun in exploration if you want to be this) -Star Wars Mon Calamari Wookie Narn-Babylon 5 Elom Whiphid Mustarfarian Jawas Trandoshans Taurans Asgard Eldar Yautja ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Galactic History!!! High Era- The stages building up to the Great War. Galaxy carved up between the Forerunners and the Protheans. The Asgard at this time act much like power brokers but also care for their client race the Eldar, who are proving to be an innovative but vain species. The War- Nobody quite knows what happened but something entered our galaxy. This triggered a huge war between the technologically superior forerunners and their massive constructs and the numerous protheans. Entire planets were scorched and stars ignited. Thousands of developing sophontic species would go extinct simply from misfires of the species huge weapons. During this time the Asgard were slipping away as both sides demanded that they join the fight. The Asgard went into hiding leaving the Eldar to guard the warp. The Tyranids entered the galaxy due to the Eldars failiure, meanwhile the Flood bioweapon was invented and unleashed with disasterous results. The Forerunners and Eldar ignited the Halo rings causing the destruction of nearly all of those species except for the hiding Asgard and Craftworld Eldar. Dark Ages- The galaxy is left in ruins, planets stripped bare. Millions of extinctions as ecosystems collapse and the last remaining space habitats slip away due to lack of supplies or rampant AIs. A few species arise but fall such as the Geth and Quarians. The Prawns as well climax until the Gou'uld wipe out their leadership. Much of the galaxy is dominated by these stellar lords until the Asgard return and see the damage. Humanity and many other developing races are saved. Near the end of this age the Covenant is born. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There we are! For all new members here is hopefully a full enough vision of the Universe

Iamna is right, remember at one point the Covenant controlled a significant portion of the galaxy. They could have come across the Taurans and forced them into fighting. A Tauran would be a worthy match for an elite in straight up close combat. |

More importantly, they had a massive, extremely advanced fleet. Most races are going to choose surrender if it's offered after several billion of their people are obliterated and they can do nothing to stop it. |

In this Universe the Covenant collapsed due to a two pronged war between the freshly formed Citadel Alliance and the UNSC. The UNSC barely survived the onslaught and Earth was under siege when a Turian Fleet launched a suprise attack on the Covenant Capital of High Charity and destroyed the largely unguarded vessel. This caused the fleets to disintegrate as many of the prophets were now dead. The Taurans could have used this to break away and escape. Although the Covenant is rebuilding its stregnth... Also what would relations be like between the Covenant and the Sith Empire? I figured that they would have had some sort of truce? Seeing as both have extremely powerful fleets and vast armies the war between them would be catastrophic. |

I forgot about conquering Im kinda slow. Especially because prewar Taurans had almost absolute peace, they had no knowledge of personal combat. Missiles can be made, but it takes time and imagination to create effective battle strategies for ground attacks. The Taurans would of been conquered very rapidly and easily.
