Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

A Very Busy Galaxy Started out as the ultimate cross over between sci-fi universes. And was an rp for a short amount of time.

Here is an overview of the main powers of the galaxy:

The UNSC

There are thousands of other more minor powers in this galaxy which I shall go into if you guys are interested? Any alien species suggestions I will try to include although a wikipedia article would help :) Also would you guys want to restart the rp?

Perhaps much of their race is still fighting in the warp (webway) trying to prevent the Combine from entering this galaxy? The reason they like humans so much is perhaps because they wish to pass their mantle of warp guardians over to humanity. Maybe even the Eldar were meant to carry on but failed in their task, allowing the Tyranids to rip their way into the galaxy temporarily although were pushed back at great cost.

I don't think a treaty of such would make more sense, more a brutal and crushing victory against the Gou'uld teaching them to stay away from certain worlds. And yes replace the ancients with Forerunners.

Holben- Im thinking the Space Jockeys were another bunch of unfortunates in the Dark Ages who did not fare as well.

For a time you could have the Asgard being the only powerful race, trying to do everything at once and not being able to, so they just get the Goa'uld to leave earth alone.

Imagine if the USA, China, Russia and France disappeared and we had to take on everything they did. That's what they Dark Ages were like for the Asgard.

"Humans have potential, more than any other race, you discover for yourselves. The Covenant, Goa'uld and Tau live on the knowledge of those you call the Forerunners, the Asari, Turians and Salarians use Prothean technology. You innovate, invent, adapt, and are thus worthy of our legacy."

"What about the Eldar?"

"We are...no longer on speaking terms"

I like it! In fact I love it!

This is really shaping up nicely.

So Galactic History goes as follows:

High Era- The stages building up to the Great War. Galaxy carved up between the Forerunners and the Protheans. The Asgard at this time act much like power brokers but also care for their client race the Eldar, who are proving to be an innovative but vain species.

The War- Nobody quite knows what happened but something entered our galaxy. This triggered a huge war between the technologically superior forerunners and their massive constructs and the numerous protheans. Entire planets were scorched and stars ignited. Thousands of developing sophontic species would go extinct simply from misfires of the species huge weapons. During this time the Asgard were slipping away as both sides demanded that they join the fight. The Asgard went into hiding leaving the Eldar to guard the warp. The Tyranids entered the galaxy due to the Eldars failiure, meanwhile the Flood bioweapon was invented and unleashed with disasterous results. The Forerunners and Eldar ignited the Halo rings causing the destruction of nearly all of those species except for the hiding Asgard and Craftworld Eldar.

Dark Ages- The galaxy is left in ruins, planets stripped bare. Millions of extinctions as ecosystems collapse and the last remaining space habitats slip away due to lack of supplies or rampant AIs. A few species arise but fall such as the Geth and Quarians. The Prawns as well climax until the Gou'uld wipe out their leadership. Much of the galaxy is dominated by these stellar lords until the Asgard return and see the damage. Humanity and many other developing races are saved. Near the end of this age the Covenant is born.

Modern Era- The arrisal of the Citadel Alliance. The Human-Covenant War. Foundation of the Sith Empire. The Tau empire etc.

Sounds good, the thing with the Goa'uld and the Prawns is exactly their style.

Maybe the Asgard are waiting until humanity unites before handing over the good stuff.

They probably keep in contact with the three big ones. They might favour the FPA or the UNSC, but they were probably still waiting for more progress.

Wait.

Perhaps we could include the Chozo and Metroids, alongs side the Space Pirates.

The idea I'm working on right now is that during the Dark Ages, the Chozo, and their planet, Zebes, one of the few races to prosper, get hit with a Xenomorph infestation and they are hard-pressed to find a solution.

The Xenomorphs were brought to Zebes by the Space Pirates, who had finished off the Space Jockeys in the neighboring Milky Way, as an act of revenge on a Chozo fleet annihilating a convoy of Space Pirate trader ships. Their co-commanders, Ridley and Kraid, are the current leaders and sons of the previous Ridley and Kraid, the names being a title rather than their actual name.

Using what genetic material they can, they create the Metroids, designed to prey on Xenomorphs. However, it was too late, and the Chozo had to jump ship and start over on the planet of Talon IV. The Xenomorphs and various mutations cause the Metroids to evolve to adapt to the almost barren planet, via living in underground caverns.

Cut to the modern era.

The Chozo are scattered across the galaxy and are more plentiful beyond, not being from the Milky Way, leaving behind technology and weapons to help deal with any out-of-control Metroids. Their race, although scattered, is not going to fade anytime soon.

The Space Pirates on the other hand, are a constant threat to systems that lack protection from any galactic alliances, as they are often the cause of many Xenomorph infestations, which is usually their step one for raids.

Metroids and Metroid habitats are now spread across the galaxy due to humans learning of their ability to feed on Xenomorphs, however, they often become a problem themselves, due to being apex predators.

Now for species descriptions.

Chozo: A bird-like race that reached such a point of technological advancement that they often built temples around their complexes, due to their culture encouraging a Renaissance take on the world. A race which is highly skilled with genetics, they are the creators of the Metroids and the Power Suits, which are powerful weapons made specifically for Chozo warriors. However, modified versions can be found which are altered for use by other races, the most common being humans.

Metroids: Bizarre jelly fish-like predators that fly about through the air. They use powerful mouth-parts the crack open Xenomorph carapaces. They were engineered to withstand acidic and extremely hot environments, in order to better the Space Jockeys' Xenomorphs, however, they aren't very well adapted to places of extreme cold, meaning that Metroid infestations are often dealt with via freezing weapons, such as ERMs (endothermic-reaction missiles). Various stages in a Metroid's life look very different, but all are engineered in such a way that they all can hunt Xenomorphs with ease.(Non playable. Serves as weapon or environmental hazard.)

Ridleyians: A race of pterosaur-like beings, they have many similarities and differences from their Earthly counterparts. Ridleyians start off life as harmless-looking arboreal larvae, but they go through several pupal stages. The stage after the arboreal stage is a long period of using stored up energy to grow and alter skeletal structure. This next stage is more like the adults, minus the wings and has only a few patches of downy coating left. It spends its time on the ground and hunts until it can go back into a pupal form, where it finally develops into the adult form, which is as mentioned above, pterosaur-like, and adapted to flight. The adults have two sets of wings, as well as a long tail ending in a sharp edge, acting somewhat like a stinger. They know that they are a powerful race, and thus are not afraid to flaunt their wealth, power, and influence to rspecies they consider to be 'okay'.

Ridleyians may seem like some kind of giant mindless predators, but are actually naturally geared towards strategy and mathematics, thus letting them rise to dominance on their homeworld. Their race is not entirely unified though, as some Ridleyians openly defy their leaders, instead choosing to side with other races instead of become conscripted into the Space Pirates.

Kraidians: A race that co-existed alongside the Ridleyians, they were actually engineered to become smarter by the Ridleyians when they were in need of allies during the High era, back when they were at war with the Chozo in their home galaxy. The Kraidians provided the power the Ridleyians needed to push the Chozo out of their [the Ridleyians] sections of their sections of the galaxy, ending the war until the Dark Ages. The Kraidians are treated with the same rights as Ridleyians, despite being engineered as war allies. They are large and somewhat therapod-like in appearance, but that's where the resembleance stops, as the Kraidians are descended from troglodyte predators that filled a niche similar to bears.

Space Pirates: A crustacean-like race, not much is known about them other than that they were a third party in the Chozo-Ridleyian wars. Most sided with the Ridleyians, while others Used the Chozo as a means to leave the galaxy and find a new, peaceful home in a neighboring one. They are the primary infantry of the Space Pirates[Organization is named after them.]

Right now, I'm thinking that all this might take place in some other galaxy, similar to Andromeda.

After all, who says that there has to be only one galaxy for races to live in?

So here are a few more species to help fill it.

Neutral to the Chozo-Space Pirate Wars:

Deoxys from Pokemon: Yes, I know Pokemon takes place on an alternate Earth*, but Deoxys has always interested me because it's a virus-like life form that communicates via pheromones and flashes of bioluminescence. Not to mention they have the bizarre ability to not only change their own shape, but 'infect' the bodies of other beings for reproduction and/or war-based reasons. Honestly, if I had to die from a Chestburster or a Deoxys, I'd pick the Chestburster, because I'd prefer not having every cell in my body die violently as they get hijacked by an alien who can't even communicate with us and truly doesn't want to either. This is what my nightmares are made of. Fucking Deoxys ripping apart my DNA and replacing it with its own.

That's all I've got. I've run out of aliens to think of.

*And before Dial says it, 'targeted for children'.
But if you must know which suggestion I hope gets accepted, it's Deoxys. That thing is fucking scary.

Fakey- The title says its set in one galaxy, A Very Busy Galaxy. Could I have some pictures of these species as right now I am clueless? Also for the convenience for anyone else. Im not going to say targeted for children because I know the Metroid series is not, but what I am wary of is infusing something I know absolutely nothing about. Unlike Stargate which I had a rough idea after watching around two episodes, Im going in blind with Metroid. A good mod knows exactly what hes dealing with.

lamna- Im not so sure about the Asgard dealing with the Sith, the Sith are just bastards. Magnificent bastards at that though. I have a soft spot for star destroyers. Instead I think that the Asgard could be mainly affiliated with the UNSC, similar to the militarised seeming government of the humans in Stargate.

The governments of the world are the same in Stargate, just unusually good at keeping secrets. But yes the usually deal with the military. The UNSC are probably the ones they would most likely stay in contact with.

The Xenomorphs could have been a Jockey bioweapon to either fight one of the great races, or to deny the flood food. Say what you will about Xenomorphs but they can't get into orbit without help.

Im I the only one that has read the forever war¿ caus Id really like some Taurans in this
"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!"

I'll boil it down to the important details.[Of the Metroid games, not the AVBG universe.]

The Chozo in the original Metroid games were peaceable raptor-like(Birds of prey, not the non-avian kind.) aliens similar to the Forerunners, except that they stayed spiritual while advancing. When their planet, Zebes, became infected by a nasty species called the X Parasite, they created the Metroids to prey on them and save them.

That is, until the Metroids back-fired. The Chozo left Zebes to wander the galaxy eventually setting up on many different planets, letting the Metroids and the now wasted Zebes become a Galapagos Planet, as it were, with the only life on the planet living under ground in caverns.

Blah blah blah, and a few years later Samus gets adopted by them after the Space Pirates raid an Earth colony and Ridley himself kills her parents, accidentally making his own worst enemy in the process.

A few years later and Samus is using her own modified version of the Chozo Power suit.

Chozo Power Suit:

Human Modified Power Suit:

Eventually the Chozo send Samus to get rid of the Space Pirate presence on Zebes(Not sure why the Chozo are bothered by this. I just think they're dicks.). So anyhow, Samus wipes the floor with the Pirates, nearly extincting the Metroids in the process.

Basically, it is one big intricate plot that I don't even fully understand because I haven't played all the games, and I can't complete a single one because they're so hard to navigate. Fucking cave systems.

Anyways, this is what all those races I mentioned look like. You already see the Chozo warrior, so you've go a good idea of what they look like. Keep in mind that I described major differences in biology to make them more plausible.

But then again, a galaxy full of sophonts isn't really plausible to begin with...

Ridleyians:

Kraidians:

Spoiler: click to toggle

Space Pirates:

Spoiler: click to toggle

Metroids:

Spoiler: click to toggle

Deoxys:

Spoiler: click to toggle

So yeah. You can edit their relations with other races if you see fit, but the relations between the Chozo and the Space Pirate Confederation must remain as is, because I think I just struck the perfect balance of grey for each.

Chozo = Assholes with advanced Tech and feel the need to pick on the species within the S.P.C.

S.P.C. = Provoked and want peace between the two factions.

Oh and the Xenomorph thing. Why? Because Metroid was inspired by the Alien films.

I like the Chozo, but not the others. The Chozo fit in quite snuggly as one of the more ancient and aloof races from the dark ages. The others I am going to exclude.

lamna- Im thinking the Xenomorphs were created as a psychological weapon to horrify the Gou'uld with. Fight parasites with parasites...

Watcher- Could you perhaps post an outline of culture etc. ?
