Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

A Very Busy Galaxy Started out as the ultimate cross over between sci-fi universes. And was an rp for a short amount of time.

Here is an overview of the main powers of the galaxy:

The UNSC

The Citadel Alliance

The Tau Empire

The Covenant

The Sith Empire

There are thousands of other more minor powers in this galaxy which I shall go into if you guys are interested? Any alien species suggestions I will try to include although a wikipedia article would help :) Also would you guys want to restart the rp?

Interesting, actually that begs the question what sort of fighters should our ship be packing?

S) to many species, my computer can't take it. i think i'll just go with the Asari. there might be minor problems with that though, because i haven't actually played any of the mass effect games. but i have been researching.

I'm personally a fan of Babylon 5's Starfuries, but they can't operate in atmospheres and I doubt many people are familiar with them.

Vipers from Battlestar Galactica are probably the space fighter that people are most familiar with. Plus they are very compact. Remember this is a frigate, you are going to have to cram a lot of stuff into it.

Speaking of which, you might want to have just the one Pelican and use Kodiaks for most things. Pelicans are 30 metres long and frigates are around 150. Perhaps you would like the upgrade it to a destroyer? Or maybe it's called a frigate officially but's really much larger, maybe 250 metres.

Neither have I, but that doesn't prevent me using a wiki.
"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!"

Never mind, I've been reading the width, frigates are actually about 500 metres long, plenty of room for pelicans, a light fighter wing, missile pods, probes and all the other gubbins you need.

Fighters aren't as useful as drones, though.

I'm still rooting for Geth!

For the ship's armament, I agree with lamna about the wave-motion gun. Seems cool and I always liked thick, shining beam weapons.

Drones can do things humans cannot, but I still would like a pilot along to make decisions. Also what if someone has very advanced electronic warfare suite that can take over our drones? I'd like someone to be able to prevent that on the spot.

HERA can't be expected to run the ship, manage missile pods and control fighters that might be halfway across the system.

Plus you'd lose all the fighter jocks and aces. I prefer big guns warships to fighters and carriers, but you'd have a lot less fun without them. Plus most of the major factions included use them.

If the drones have no pregnable points, they can't be hacked- if we have a mass effect entanglement communicator, the only way info can be sent to the drone is from our ship.

My favourite ships are battleships and frigates!

We're going to create quantum entanglement communicators for drones? And I suppose we're going be using solid gold projectiles for the MAC gun? Maybe make the windows out of diamonds?

I like battlecruisers myself, it's a shame they were mostly used as pound shop battleships rather than their intended role, it's given them a bit of a bad name.

Well, tightbeam signalling then.

Making the windows out of diamonds wouldn't actually be that difficult or illogical once you have mass effect fields...

How about a drone squadron headed by a sophont pilot? Drones are cheap and expendable and so guard the pilot?

HERA is refined to the ship as well for the purposes of safety, generally its a bad idea suddenly giving a sophisticated AI control of more than its programmed to accept.

Drones, fighters, and the like are kinda pointless; they'll get taken out before they get anywhere near the enemy. It's far easier to just lob missiles and lasers from long range until one ship is disabled. But then again, this isn't going for realism, is it? :P

Think of a drone like a big missile with guns. They are actually more realistic than lasers, by quite a way. And they can carry missiles, and they're far harder to detect, and they can endure high accelerations.... basically, drones will be used and they will be effective if we ever go to war in space.

EDIT: Added a word.
