| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! I thought I'd post a few things I've done for a universe I've been working on, very slowly. First, an incomplete list of worlds with notable Human populations. This part only covers Earth and the Lost Colonies, world where humans were introduced by aliens rather than went there themselves. Later on, Space Cossacks, Space Boers, proper Imperial colonies, Space Janissaries and the Republic of the First Choice (nutty dictatorship). I've also got various ramblings about the Empire, the Invasions, Space Normans and Space Fops of anyone's interested. 1. Earth, Population 5.4 billion. Home world of humanity, seat of the Federal Terran Empire, Earth remains the most populous human world though populations are declining. Earth is divided up into 41 Provinces, 16 Zapovedniks, 8 alien reservations and the Imperial Capital, Nairobi. Along with humanity the planet is also inhabited by the descendants of aliens from the pre-Imperial and early Imperial era, Vertans, Glarks and Marttohs, along with many immigrants. Map. Spoiler: click to toggle 2. Outreciel, Population 731 million. The second world humanity inhabited was first inhabited by humans in 1131 A.D. Large pentagons of land centred around Rouen, Angkor and what would become Victoria, Australia were copied exactly and placed on Outreciel. Humanity survived and has come to dominate much of the planet, marginalizing the native Etrange. The planet is dominated by the Empire of Normandy and the Khmer Empire but their are several smaller states. An enterprising Norman founded his own Duchy in the north which has gone largely native whilemost Jews were expelled from Normandy and created their own Kingdoms. Merchants and radicals from the Khmer Empire created the quasi-Republican Sontic Confederacy, the Aborigines have four city states and their are still few dozen independent Etrange states. Before contact with the Empire technology was roughly equivalent to the 18th century on earth, with rifling and primitive steam engines just starting to be adopted. Currently most states maintain cordial relations with the Empire, but are standoffish about integration, and most are focusing on rapid modernisation. Massive map. Spoiler: click to toggle 3. Torstenson, Population 68 million. Torstenson was the third world humans inhabited, with the first setting foot there in 1718. A great deal more is known about what happened on Torstenson than is known about Outreciel. In 1718 large numbers of British and French colonists were abducted from North America, along with many native Americans. Along with one Turk and three Chinese people these unwilling people were transplanted to Torstenson by aliens who intended to hunt them. Some believe they thought earth was becoming too advanced and so decided to set up a private hunting reserve. The colonists cooperated at first but eventually went their separate ways, founding New France, Georgia, the Iroquois League, Wabanaki, Ojibwe and New Wendake. Later the Dutch formed their own country, Orange, with freed slaves created Freeland and radical puritans founded Burton. Every so often the aliens would return, and periodically they would wage total war against the Humans, pushing them to the brink before leaving, presumably to maintain a low population and primitive technology. By the time the Empire discovered them the nations of Torstenson were equivalent to mid-20th century earth. With the exception of isolationist Burton and a few minor states the nations of Torstenson maintain cordial relations with Earth and have fully modernized and it is expected most nations will join the Empire at some point in the future. The Imperial Terran Navy maintains a small squadron on Torstenson station to aid the Royal Georgian Space Navy and the New French Aerospace Corps in the event the aliens return. Map. What are relations like between the humans and aliens on Earth? For each, if possible

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

I've added maps, and to keep it short I'll just give a quick summery. Vertans, relations are excellent and their is little prejudice against them at all, they have the most and nicest reserves and their homeworld was made a protectorate without firing a shot. Bastards. Their invasion was nasty. Almost entirely exterminated. Glarks. The ones on earth are decent enough, but they are religious nutters and the situation on their homeworld is pretty bad. It's kept under quarantine and the natives prevented from leaving their world. Think the Gaza Strip on a planetary scale. Marttohs. Their invasion was basically an army purge by their government and they fairly quickly surrenderd when they realised the could not win. Earth toppled the regime a few decades later and installed a much more pleasant one that sought to become a protectorate. Known for providing excellent warriors, once you get past all the surrendering jokes. Edited by lamna, Apr 13 2012, 07:31 PM.
