| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. I wanted this to be true to the title. Speculative Superpower Universe, but everyone and their grandma chose. OMGZZZOOORS< RULIGON.
You could have told me this. And you have to realize...
I've never played that game, never watched Blade, I don't like the Dark Knight's depiction of Batman(ADAM WEST IS THE ONLY BATMAN), I grew up watching Western heroes start their quest in the name of revenge on a crime boss or clearing their names*, and their robotic sidekicks did THIS. Seriously, tell me how many of those above mentioned heroes hide a Civil War Era machine gun int a fucking coffin and then blow an entire gang of Mexican banditos to the ground. Gotta remember, when you make every single character of yours act like they have a god complex**, give them a drinking problem***, you make them treat others like shit from the get-go****,and give them a whole bunch of easily brainwashed mooks*****, you tend to make all the characters seem like the same one with different powers. Let's look at what each of my characters had as traits.(Excluding that horrible decision that was Link. If I had a time machine, I'd slap my own hand away from the post button.) Shiromaru: That bratty little kid who you love to hate. thinks of nothing but himself and what he wants. Had psychic powers to boot, which fed his bad behavior. This kid needed a belt and bad. Had I finished his adult bio, he have grown into a cocky and arrogant man(Like the guy he calls 'Father'.) with nothing but his own interests at heart. Would have dressed like he came out of a BSDM convention and tortured anyone who didn't let him have his way by sending them mental images of him raping them.(Yes, a literal mind rape.) Midori: That one character that was meant to serve as a work rival for Styx. Eventually he evolved into the backstabber who would try and gain any advantage he could. He was put on a bus sometime during the attack on Ikabod's island, due to getting bored of him. Eventually, NSSU's first post had the bus come back, with Midori actually having more depth aside from 'that Douchey guy that worked with Styx for a bit'. Was going to be the main villain, and the first plot was going to delve into why he disappeared, a government coverup of alien abductions during WWII, and a race to stop Midori from nuking the Amazon in an attempt to re-create the day the Nagasaki Bomb gave him his powers. It would have ended with Midori getting stripped of his powers and sinking to the bottom of the sea******, which would have opened for a story arc about Man-X. Instead, he got killed in a ghostly kamikaze plane armed with a nuclear bomb. The Crocodile: The exact opposite of Shiro. He got one moment of heroism in before the OSSU was canned. He helped Styx and Reptile apprehend Ikabod at the Siege of Solumbra, via a small, lightning storm above the tower that Styx and Reptile had cornered Icky on, preventing an escape via chopper. Not like it'd help, considering Ikabod was up against a man with missiles and did I mention Reptile was there? His powers included all those of a thunder storm. Could move at the speed of lightning(Meaning he creates sonic booms), summon small storms for use in battle, and could throw himself into the air via tornadoes. Looked up to both Reptile and Styx as role models, even if they treated him like a little kid. Was probably my first attempt at a both a 'pure' character and the 'rookie' character. Was going to feature in NSSU: Oz as an instructor for the Academy for Regimental Superhero Education or A.R.S.E. for short. NSSU: Oz would have been about new supers going into A.R.S.E. and learning about how to properly handle things. Gorm: My second attempt at an enlightened character who only wishes to have fun with his powers. Due to recent failures of communication, I eventually killed him in his sleep and blew his dead body to smithereens.(Geez, a lot of my characters' deaths involve exploding violently. Midori, Gorm, Ozzy...) *Which if you go with the mad doctor Ikabod being an asshole, you could have this be an evil clone of Sawside to rally the support of terrorists, which would both piss off Sawside and force him try and clear his name. Plus, kicking the ass of terrorists. HOOAH. **Ikabod most assuredly does. ***Even then, you pour whiskey down their throats. Widen your range. There are more kind of booze than Beer, Wine, Whiskey and Vodka. Hell, give them some other bizarre addiction. There's a character in MGS4 with an addiction to COLA of all things. Not to mention alcoholism has been an over used negative character trait ever since the Avengers. Seriously, there were like two characters on the team that didn't have cirrhosis of the liver. ****Which doesn't garner sympathy points, boyo. First impressions may not matter in Britain, but here in the U.S. if a character acts like a fucking whackjob, then I'm going to hate their fucking guts for the rest of the RP, even if they Heel Face Turn. Seriously, you say Ikabod is a memorable character? I consider the likes of Styx and Reptile, which were a colorful duo who often picked at each other, bickered, and fought as allies and enemies, to be far more memorable. They're the best kind of duo. The Straight man/Crazy man act, only you can tell which is which. *****Mob mentality isn't as prevalent here in the U.S. as it is in Britain. Note that we don't have riots over our favorite teams losing against our rivals. Sure we'll get into heated arguments, or even break down into tears at the loss, but we have far fewer riots. Also note that tolerance of supers in this universe goes way back to when the first major difference happened. The ancient Greeks landed in Ireland and helped the Celts beat the invading Anglos in a war, using their supers as an asset rather than killing them all. Since then, Christianity has sort of fallen into the way most of us in the West see Jehovah's Witnesses. Its a small minority that no one takes seriously. Because of that one war, the Religion of Ancient Greece and the Celts prospered, Causing Ireland to become a powerful nation, and both of the Pagan religions to take top spots.(Which, although Singe never gave them an official name, I'm going to start calling Celticism and Grecism for simplicity's sake.) Also a predictable side effect is that Irish is widely spoken, which is fukken boss. ****** Yes, it actually was going to go a 'sciency' route before Dial shoe-horned in Ikabod, who had learned nothing from being thwarted in Solumbra. Which essentially forced me to give up when I learned Dial wanted to make the religious over tones blindingly obvious, with each character representing an ideology. I, like a fool, decided to let him have his way and then gently steer it back into scientific waters. You can see how that went. I guess this is what happens when you're afraid to step on a few toes. I honestly didn't want to cause any inter-mod conflict, but because I didn't speak up then, I fed Dial's self-admitted "act like the baddest thing to walk the earth" attitude that he's mentioned before. Which he's not. I worst thing to walk the earth was the Powerglove. I love the Powerglove. It's so bad. So there's my side of things, some suggestions, and a clearing of how I took things. And because I'm Pageking: Ignore that it's ponies. It's fitting. Spoiler: click to toggle EDIT: Corrected for grammar, pageking, and why I included the vid. Edited by Kamidio, Apr 13 2012, 07:40 PM.

*sigh*...the king has crowned me his successor on his death bed…and I am but the court jester. I’ve never run an RP before…I’ve never PLAYED an RP before. I have been given god like powers over a world I no next to nothing about. I am both fearful and faltered. I barley had any idea this game had plotlines, and was chosen to be the focus for one is an honor. I wish to remain faithful to the history of this world, but until singe PM’s me back, I’m in the dark. Maybe I could be PM’ed the ideas for storylines that have been proposed thus far? |

That's the thing. Dial and I don't agree on any plotlines. Quite frankly, I disapprove of his and Canis apocalypse plot, because he never told me about it. I found out through Canis. Going behind your boss' back isn't a good idea, especially when said boss is one of the nice ones. Edited by Kamidio, Apr 14 2012, 12:14 AM.

The problem lies Fakey in the fact that I feared some of your plots would go too far. In the end it boils down to me being adamant that we never ever have anything like the Egyptian Gods popping up again. (Something which really wound up Singe). The original worked so well as the super team, were also morally grey. Its a dynamic which worked perfectly. We loved Styx and Reptile because they both were clearly the good guys, although they still were no white knights. Meanwhile Ikabod was a twisted sickened bastard. Without Kingpin and Singe who were both instrumental to the original because of their characters so central to lore I felt we needed to create something new of NSSU. I am now intrigued as to your interpretation of Sawside. Post the new introduction then. The problem with your plots is that they are too complex, I have said this to you before. How the hell do we get everyone to Australia without suddenly creating new characters? Or the Amazon? Alien abductions WWII? I think what we should go back to is the good old fighting between heroes and villains, what happens then is much more fun. Although it may have been over the top the battle for Solumbra was fun, so was the Siege of Nightingale Island. Just the regular old clashes I think we should stick to, supers try and foil villains. Villains try and accomplish their goals.... Is that more reasonable? No longer to me and you clash on these things. I liked the fact Midori was hunting the president that was cool, it was spontaneous and could tie into everyone, some of the heroes could try and stop it etc. |

do to the fact that, as far as i know, most participating members are new to this world, a simple good v.s evil plot would be better. but we still have the whole war thing to go over... |

I'm learning the entire world history. It seems we'll have to restart the ENTIRE thing. Russia is three countries, Japan is a Toho film-made-reality, Australia is like Mad Max with Western themes, and New York is guarded by Reality-Warping Empathic Shark. He's called John. |

A Japan could be interesting, although not many of us have much experience with the culture. One set in Russia would be good if we play on three factions? |

Still learning more about the history. Seems that we're going to need an overhaul. We'll have to lose all the characters. Midori, Ikabod, the whole lot. Except for Karla. She can be re-tooled into the Big Bad and salvaged. Edited by Kamidio, Apr 14 2012, 01:44 PM.

No, this is great! Every big thing made without extensive planning will fall apart, so a nice and clean overhaul, plus a cannon one, will be good. Plus I can create a more dynamic character. |
|
"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!" | |

Guys, something I discussed with Dial to reign the RP in to get back to good old superhero vs. supervillain battling. It all has to do with the apocalypse thing:
Anyone object to this? |
