Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

OK, I was on the phone texting some dirty birds (UL fans) bad things about UL on my iPhone, and then my Dad begins texting an apology, and so does my Mom; they wished UL good luck! Though now I want to sue them, what team are you; UK or UL? I am UK.

Miocene, why would you post a topic about this? Most of the people on here aren't from the Indiana/Kentucky region. Granted, there is a good amount of people from the United States, but most people (including me) don't even care about the game, let alone sports in general.

Besides, everybody knows that football is the best sport. And by football, I mean actual football. Not America's bastardized version of it.

Well, I actually don't know. It is just I got really angry about my Dad and Mom apologizing to the dirty birds, so I needed to post it somewhere. And, this being the only forum site I know, I decided to post here.

Why do you keep posting random stuff about disagreements you've had with family members?
I don't really see how that should concern anyone on this forum.

I went to see Harlequins versus Saracens today, but I don't think anyone gives a shit about that.

Yes proper football is the way forwards ;) !

I admit, American football is exciting. But real football is the best sport out there. It's definitely better than baseball and curling.

from my POV gridiron sems more about rules, and pomp and ceremony and ritual..

All the other codes of "football" beat it hands down for excitement and ritualised violence and continuity of play, soccer, rugby, Australian rules and Gaelic football. I don't mean to get our Seppo forum members offside, but why all the padding and helmets and stuff?

Admittedly both Gridiron and Rugby do seem to have some homo-erotic thing going on - but why does gridiron have make it look even more gay, while still maintaining the flagrant campness of the whole thing is some macho hetero ritual?

Australia is a divided nation, in NSW and urban Queensland, "football" means Rugby. In the rest of Australia, it means Aussie Rules. But in many inner city Aussie neighbourhoods inhabited by large minorities of Southern Europeans, Scots or Poms etc, "football" means Soccer.

Me? I find the whole social and sociological aspects of sport interesting, but I take no interest in faux combat. Now if it was to the death, then I'd be there lining up at the gate at the crack of dawn every Saturday or Sunday.

American football is kinda like the human equivalent of chest-beating. (Although there actually is quite a bit of actual chest-beating involved...)

You bring up an interesting point Magoo about how sports would be more interesting if they were to the death.

I'd be willing to watch a sport where the loser was killed. Heck, I almost wish that the Hunger Games were a real sport. As long as I was a member of the Capital or was in no danger of participating in the games myself, I would avidly watch it. I already watch the show "Survivor," which is sort of like the fictional Hunger Games (save for the fact that Survivor's contestants don't try to kill each other). Frankly, I think it would be a fun sport to watch.

Would it be gruesome? Undoubtedly. Horrible? Yes. Oppressive? Oh, no doubt about it. Entertaining, though? Ab-so-lute-ly.

That's why we have America' Funniest Home Videos. All the guilty pleasure of watching people get injured in humiliating ways without the normal guilt of watching someone die for your entertainment.

Gladiatorial combat would be very interesting in modern days, kinda like if we combined a sport as boring as fencing with the awesomeness and brutality of boxing. I think the contestants should be volunteers though. I think the sport would take off rather quickly.

Also rugby is a far better sport than American Pussyball, we don't need to wear pads. We don't need 4 hour long ad breaks. All we need is Swing Low when England is playing.

(Yes I know it was originally a slave song, but it has transcended it to become a universal symbol of hope)

Brilliant.

Wrestling is a less violent yet slightly homoerotic version of gladiatorial combat. But it's popularity never seemed to truly catch on.

As for football(soccer or American) vs rugby rugby wins, that's a damn man sport.once Saw a man get his eyes kicked out playing rugby. Personally I can even watch a damn football(soccer) game; just can't get into it watching people kick a ball back n fro is just awful to watch I honestly have no idea how you foreigners can bare it let alone love it

Uruf- You have to see a football game live. You follow one team through it all, then you understand. I am a Millwall fan and so at the moment we are doing absolute shit, we are 19th on the table close to relegation. But when you go to a game and those goals come in the searing of the crowd is just phoenomenal.

Rugby is a great sport, and yes its definitely a man's sport. When we were playing I accidentally ripped my best mates nose open, as his nostril got hooked over one of my boot studs. Fucking horrible. The crazy bastard was back playing pretty soon. The fights as well in it are brutal. I didn't tend to get involved in many as I was one of the scrawny runners out on the wing, but when the forwards start swinging their fists over a penalty its pretty bad.
