Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Hey, if any of you have ever seen Chicken Little when you were younger or if you have kids, you know that 'the sky is falling' in the movie. Well, despite this is a little kid movie, if we just made actual people in there that were scientists, the sky "falling" in a more realistic way, and if we added aliens, it could be a good sci-fi movie. But we will need aliens, and plausible alien species. Any ideas?

The Sky is Falling! Part 1

We have recently heard of a mysterious crash in Area 51, Nevada. While most people think that they are aliens, we think that it is just a piece of space junk that fell to Earth. However, ever since the 'sight', we have noticed that the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere has been decreasing ever since the crash. This makes some of us believe that there are aliens, but most of us still highly doubt the idea.

How was that beginning?

I think it is wrong. This issue goes to the habitable zone

Actually, this goes in Cafe Cosmique.

Depends. If people want to write a story(s) then I suppose they would go in Cafe Cosmique. But speculation about aliens and etc would, I presume, go into the Habitable Zone. I think miocenemadness should clarify whether this is a story thread or a discussion thread, but if it is the latter it should probably be moved to the Hab Zone anyway.

OK, I get that you think that it should go in Habitable Zone or Cafe Cosmique, but what do you think about the plot? I was thinking that in the movie, there could be a little 'prologue' that takes place in ancient Egypt and there could be a lot of aliens that come out of a spaceship, and the native inhabitants (the Egyptians) could think that they were gods and godesses, which could start Egyptian mythology.

the plot has some sense. But it should include more on the biology and behavior of this alien race. And why do that to our planet

I will, don't worry. Oh, and BTW, you know how the Mayans (or maybe the Aztecs, I can't remember) disappeared mysteriously? Well, I am planning on an alien race to take them. Oh, and I'm also planning on making a lot of planets, and all of their sapients have teamed up to take over Earth because they need more supplies, and they want to take over the most primitive group of sapients known; humans (us).

Well, in our real world, the Mayans disappeared by abrupt climate change. And the Aztecs the Spanish exterminated.

Prologue is too short.

Needs to be 2,000 to 200,000 words tops.

OK, dragontunders, I know that, but this is a sci-fi movie. And Fakey, that wasn't the actual prologue. And there is actually a rule for that? But does anyone have any ideas for alien species? Oh, and BTW, on a totally different note, on AltEvo, you should see Age of Birds and try my competition No Dinos. Just saying.

The Mayans didn't disappear. There still here, their civilization fell apart, but they are still around. The Aztecs were crushed by the people they had been brutally slaughtering in their Flower Wars, with aid from the Spanish.

The Roanoke Colony is a much better target for your aliens, over a hundred people disappeared and it's not been adequately explained away. They packed up their colony, left and no trace has been found.

Earth does not have anything very special in resources. Earth has the highest gravity of anywhere you could land and potentially hostile natives. There is nothing here that you can't mine cheaper and safer elsewhere.

Oxygen disappearing in measurable amounts? That sounds quite unlikely to me.

Thank you, Lamna. Does anyone have ideas for why the aliens want to take over Earth? I was also thinking that the aliens could start by putting small alien creatures on Earth in small containers (which was the "space junk" in the beginning), and then letting the creatures roam and evolve. The creatures could evolve fast.

That plot has been done already, in the form of a movie and a cartoon series based on it.

It was called Evolution.
