| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. I'm working on building a fake Pokemon region, and I need help with ideas/designs. I already have the starters, but not much else, so post your ideas! Also, feel free to share your Fakemon if you have any (I'm looking at you, Fakey). |

I love Fakemon! But sadly, I suck at spriting. ![]() I'm trying to develop this region based on an alternate history of America. Pretty much, if we had had Pokemon (as real creatures) since around 1900. Pretty much, the region I'm working on now (called Huron) includes the states of Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Starters in this region (heck, all the regions) don't follow the standard fire-grass-water trio. Instead, in this particular region (it varies, depending on which region you're in), the starters are fire-ice-ground types. This is based on the fact that in my (fake) region, there is an ammunition factory in Evansville, Indiana (also the site of the first gym, which is fire), an extremely icy city in Green Bay, Wisconsin (site of the eighth gym, which is ice), and a rock mine in Bedford, Indiana (site of the third gym, which is ground). The criminal gang is called the Vulcan Syndicate (based on the Roman god Vulcan, not the "Star Trek" alien) who are focused primarily on destroying the world allow animals to rule again. They primarily use fire, poison, and dark types. If only I was good at spriting... |

I can sprite, well I used to but I'm sure I can start back up. I always made pokemon but never could do a region. |

Dude, we already have an America. Unova = NYC. You have to remember that the regions are small slivers of a place. Like Hoenn is the island of Kyushu, Kanto is Kanto, Johto is Kansai, Sinnoh is Hokkaido, and the Ranger regions are smaller islands and peninsulas. So if you wanted a region based on the Midwest, you'd go with something near the Ohio River, and include small parts of northern Kentucky and southern Indiana. The biggest cities would have to be based on Cincinnati(Similar to Tokyo being broken up into Celdadon and Saffron. ) You'd also take some inspiration from around the world in order to account for cultural districts, especially considering the high black population. |

Eh, I'm sure if Pokemon was a real world thing, the regions would be considerably bigger. Trainers would probably use motorcycles or cars to get around rather than walking or biking. The only region the games have such small regions is: 1. It would be difficult to program a large region like one we'd see in a real Pokemon world. 2. In games, you've got to worry about player boredom. Players would definitely get bored if they had to travel hours to get to the next town. |

Yep. Orre was one of the largest regions in the game series, if I recall. |
