| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Something's up. We've had an incredibly mild winter here in Kansas, and that's just not right. Usually there's blizzards, temperatures well under freezing most nights, and lots of snow in February. It is 10 C outside; bees are flying around dead flowers, trees are budding, there are ants coming up out of the ground. It's spring out there, when it should be the harshest part of winter. Am I going to die this summer? Is Kansas going to be consumed in flame as the heat of August bares down on us this year? |
|
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

Yeah, the snow here probably won't stick around. Things don't seem too out here, but I'm a little suspicious. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Either this is to be expected because we're at the end of the sun's eleven year cycle, or the moon is moving away from us faster than we thought and we're going to start rotating all wonky. |

The snow came much later than usual here in the Ottawa valley, but we have the same amount of snow we get every year. It has been a tad warmer up here than usual, however... |

It's both, technically. Culturally we're split, climate wise we are on line, we're both. Also, as far as I'm concerned, if you're in a KFC you should legally be considered in Kentucky, so we're everywhere. Isn't El Nino or something right now? |

Well in the southern hemisphere the opposite is happening, it's fucking winter weather down here. It's 20 c and overcast, normally at this time of year we should be in 30-40 plus weather with pure blue sky. The entire summer has been really mild with a few hot days |
