| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Scotland and the Nords Ah-huh... WHY HAS NO ONE TOLD ME THIS!? I WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY INTERESTED TO HEAR ABOUT SCOTLAND TRYING TO BREAK AWAY! DAMN YOU, YOU TEA-SIPPING LOBSTER BACKS! That is restriction of information! I feel betrayed! I thought we were bros, you, you, YOU CHAVS! Ddraig, I suggest you turn on them. Ireland knew what the fuck they were doing when they left. Those Pommie traitors have been keeping secrets from us, my friend. We have a right to know about Scotland's attempts to leave the influence of the throne and join with the far superior Nords. I learned of this from one of my Danish friends. Humpf, I knew you could only trust a viking. Edited by Kamidio, Jan 30 2012, 01:28 AM.

Fakey's referring to some Scots pushing to completely separate from England and to become a sovereign state in their own right, but with the same sovereign as England. That would cause havoc in the Commonwealth and the UK - we'd have to remove St Andrew's cross from the Union Jack! Scots pushing for this are in the minority. I do kinda have some sympathy with them, 300 years ago they were suffering under the yoke of dominion, and their traitorous lairds working with the English dog Sassanach to kick them off the land (highland clearances - sheep were preferred to highlanders, much more economical). But that's ancient history, I think they'd lose more than they'd gain from such a divorce. |

Because it's not going to happen, Scotland's will always be free. What could mentioning it do? Just get me riled up, and I won't let the traitors get to me. Nobody is stopping you following British Politics, I don't because it just ends up annoying me. Edited by lamna, Jan 30 2012, 10:38 AM.

This is just like the separatist movement in Quebec. And this will likely have the exact same fate as the Bloc-Quebecois |

Scotlands economy isn't strong enough to man it alone. The whole UK depends on each other. Its a tiny amount of people who want to leave the Union. |

Scotland could survive on it's own, it's not Greenland where independence would mean collapse. But wouldn't do nearly as well, look how Ireland's struggling. |

I'm fairly indifferent to Welsh independance, actually. In fact, frankly, there's no way Wales can possibly attain independance - we rely on England for a lot of support, and we couldn't sustain ourselves if we left. That said, I would like a few more law-making concessions for the Welsh Assembly, but all-out independence? - No. But then, we got the nice tall mountains, the awesome flag and King Arthur, so I'm not complaining. |

See I think that there should be an entirely independant English, Welsh and Scottish parliments thus allowing each nation greater political autonomy but economic policies are decided by a general UK parliment. |

Wales could manage on it's own, Luxembourg manages quite well with a sixth of the people and much less land. Not that it should, almost nothing is gained and a lot is lost, like cutting off your legs so you are free from having to buy shoes. Glad to hear you're not thinking of joining the Welsh Republican Army, which is the least threatening terrorist organisation I've ever heard of. Hopefully we'll eventually get some kind of federation going eventually. I can't help imagining the Welsh government sitting cross-legged in the gym listening to a policeman talking about road safety. I wonder where the English capital should be if we have a separate one? Winchester maybe, it was the capital for quite a long time. Birmingham's the logical choice if we're looking for an important city. It's in the middle of the country in neither the North nor the South with excellent transport links, plus it would be pretty satisfying to have a load of politicians having to spend much of their time in Brum. That and Winchester looks kind of nice, no need to ruin it by making it a political hub when Birmingham is already ruined. Edited by lamna, Jan 30 2012, 05:20 PM.

Isn't Ireland one of Europe's fastest growing economies. The Celtic Tiger was halted by the recent worldwide economic crisis but the island nation has been bouncing back ever since. |

So you'd the U.S.B.?
Quarter it off and make it separate from England, like we did with D.C., and it's perfect. |
