| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? ME3! Unfortunately, I won't be able to play it till after June >_> Reapers have armour and MHD weapons, whereas the Maw only his thick hide. In the game, I can't say who the plot will favour, but Reapers get my vote here. |

In the game the thresher Maw will probably at least damage it enough for the reaper to be destroyed. In most situations, reapers hand down. And yes I'm looking forward to the game. Come February I'll probably buy Bring Down the Sky and make a character who does not romance anyone. Maybe even a biotic, though don't usually care about that. I'll probably just get a solider and try out the Mattock rifle. |

Well I was a little depressed as I thought about the situation. Assuming everyone has the maximum number of dreadnoughts allowed by the Treaty of Farixen, the council races have under 100. Add the Quarians, Batarian and the minor non-council races and you might push that up to 150. The reapers have more, better capital ships. Sovereign trashed Fifth Fleet without even trying. Even with the Geth on our side things look very grim. But recently I was watching the Lord of the Rings and I realised, this was exactly how Aragorn and the rest felt. We knew they were going to win looking from the outside, but from their perspective things were pretty grim. They had to trust in providence, and Commander Shepard must too. Perhaps March 9th is a good day to die. |

USA gets it on the 6th. Not fair. Geth forces must be many orders of magnitude bigger than Citadel ones, though. |

Possibly, but we don't get to see much. They don't seem very interested in the rest of the galaxy. Still they will be vital in the coming fight. Maybe a couple of Volus will save us all while we keep the reapers busy. |

Ah yes, "I am a biotic god." Do you think Earth will survive will the invasion with biosphere intact, or become a crater-filled wasteland like we saw so many of during exploration? Why didn't the Reapers just bombard from orbit? |

Because they need, or at least want humans to create the next generation of reapers. It was kinda the whole point of ME2. I'm sure they will wipe earth clean when they are done, but it's the only place with lots of humans in the galaxy. For the reapers this isn't war, it's gardening. They don't see anyone as a serious threat and so can take their time. Edited by lamna, Jan 22 2012, 08:56 AM.

Erp, I completely forgot. They even said they must be targetting Earth in the Collector Ship mission. Though I would think they would focus on Shepard, as he managed to kill Sovereign. |

But he/she had a lot of help in doing that, namely the Citadel and 5th fleet. The Reapers have been doing this since at least the Eocene, and what we know from Vigil they are happy to take centuries doing it. They will head to earth, harvest the human population and then take out the other powers. After that they'll scour the galaxy for every last human and destroy all sapient life, maybe making a couple Quarian Reapers if they are desperate for numbers, though I doubt it. It's not the Reapers's first rodeo. I'm sure there have been thousands of heros who killed Reapers. Shepard is of interest to them, but they have a galaxy to harvest. |

As much as I'm very excited about Mass Effect 3, I can't help but feel that the entire game will be one big deus ex machina. The reapers have been harvesting so many species, they have such a long past, and it is not farfetched that they advance their technology every single time they harvested a civilisation. I fail to see how this time everything will be different and the reapers will fall. Even if we take into account the two major things that change this harvest from past ones, namely the fact that the reapers don't start their invasion with the citadel and thus wipe out the head of all galactic civilisation in a blitz attack. And even if we assume that the galaxy has more races to fight the reapers than in the past (Vigil said, that the protheans were the only sapient species back then) then it's still countless of super-starships who can take out entire fleets each alone vs. a handfull of dreadnoughts and a bunch of totally irrelvant smaller spacecraft. I simply can't help but feel the entire plot to culminate in a "humanity will win because OMG SPACE UNICORNS WE WIN" ending. Just for a proper comparison: It's like we decide to wipe out every single ant species on earth. We might take decades to do it, but ants will never do any significant damage to human civilisation as a whole, and I doubt they'd even be able to kill a significant amount of humans. Vigil did not say the protheans were the only species around at the time, though the fact he did not mention any means they were probably not important. There will me multiple endings, hopefully there is a "good" ending where enough people survive hidden away that they can rebuild galactic civilisation much more quickly and be 50,000 years more advanced next time the reapers come around, or just go and wipe them out while they wait in dark space. But yeah, without something major galactic civilization is doomed, the odds make Japan's chances of winning WWII look certain. We must put our trust in two young volus, and hope they can destroy the Omni-tool of power. Edited by lamna, Jan 22 2012, 02:37 PM.
