| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Yeah, major stuff is going to happen in Syria, Egypt, Iran, and Israel. Like lamna said, it's only a matter of time. Let's just hope that this Middle Eastern powder-keg doesn't pull the rest of the world into a huge conflict (unlikely) or devastate the oil supply (quite likely). But no, Hanover in Indiana. I guess it was a village set up here when Indiana was mostly run by German immigrants. |

In a new Middle-Eastern war, how would things play out? Would the Russians or Chinese interfere? Would everyone gang up on Israel or would there be several factions? |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

Depends whether there is oil there or not. No oil it is unlikely that Western powers will get involved, of course Israel would still get vast amounts of support from the US ,maybe a few extra troops but I doubt anything major. Europe would only get involved if there is a risk that Turkey goes Islamofacist. |

Russia only gets involved in the "Near abroad" and China just stays at home. Neither has much ability for power projection, and they traditionally have not done much either. All they would do is whine from the sidelines, same as they did in Libya. I don't think it's a matter of time before a major war. I think that is fairly unlikely to happen, the Syrians and Egyptians know what's at stake. In the last big war the Israelis were almost in Cairo and Damascus. The peace has been very good for Egypt, they are unlikely to abandon it without very good reason and Assad might be a bastard, but he is no idiot. Islamofascist is a stupid word made up by nationalist twats. The word is Islamist, and there is no threat of that happening. Turkey is very strong. They could crush Syria and more than hold their own against Iran. Only the USA has a larger army in NATO, they have the third largest air force and a large and capable navy. This is Turkey's time to rise again, and there is a chance that a dangerous form of nationalism and militarism will take hold. But the idea of Islamists taking over is about as plausible as fundamentalist Christians taking over the USA. If anyone threatens the secular nature of Turkey, the army will stage a coup. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kemalist_ideology |

Im using the word Islamofacist since it is a word which is used the most to describe the sorts of governments. Im not saying a fundie government will arise in Turkey, Im giving reasons for why Europe may get involved. There is one interesting war to note. During my work experience in Athens I began to learn of the diplomatic skirmishes between the greeks and turks over oil and Natural Gas off of the coast of Crete and Cyprus. This is a war I think that is very likely to happen out of all the possible future conflicts. The Greek government is looking to secure its economy and try and survive, securing those resources could actually save the economy of Greece. Greece may have the backing of the EU. France and Germany would want such a conveniently close supply especially since Germany closed all its nuclear power plants. But Turkey has the larger military and a far better trained one at that. |

But it's stupid, you might as well tack fascist onto anything you don't like. Maybe, but so far Greco-Turkish relations have been improving. Greece would loose I expect, badly. The Turks aren't some silly little dictatorship half a world away, they are a proper country we have normal diplomatic relations with. For that war to happen, Greece would probably have to switch sides and go pro-Russian, which is not that absurd given how friendly they are with Serbia but still a bit unlikely. |

I expect the Argentine troops abandoned by their officers to die in the Falklands would disagree. You can't get much closer to Antarctica and still have something worth fighting over. |

If there is a war in the north, it could possibly be something resulting from all of the oil discovered in Canadian waters up there. You know how everyone is about oil |

Funny thing is, Greenland and Canada want to avoid war over that, but the U.S. and Denmark encourage it. Because Canada is our hat. ~<3 |

No, it isn't. Canada is way too different from the U.S to be controlled by the state's every whim. EDIT: And you can't forget about Russia; they don't seem to recognize that Canada actually has sovereignty over it's own waters

We should all move to conquer Antarctica. Those penguins are doing more than dancing down there... Canada has had it too good for too long. We need to invade. You can only be a hat for us Americans for so long... I only kid about Canada though. Even though America does take over Canada in a vast majority of my future history scenarios, I realize how foolish it would be. Anyway, even if the Middle East war isn't even close to a major war that pulls in the world's major powers, there will be at least a minor regional war. Who between, I don't know. More than likely, I say that the Israelis would start another Arab-Palestinian war that may or may not pull in other Middle Eastern countries and limited U.S. support. But I think that's as far as the most likely Middle Eastern conflict will go. |
