| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. I've never seen it (or read the book; the book's supposed to be good though), but I'm sure it was rather lackluster. The name itself makes me think of a REALLY bad 50's sci-fi flick.![]() Although, it does have these things, so it can't be ALL bad... |

What IS that, anyway? It's clearly from a video game, but... It does look kinda familiar, though. |

I really do recommend you look into the politics of the book, its touched on in the film in a largely satirical way. The film is great though, the second one is awesome as well. They present a pretty awesome fascist society which I would want to live in! Russ its an antlion guard from Half life 2, great game! |

"Starship Troopers" is such a fuckin', awesome movie! Paul Verhoeven is a fuckin' genius! Speaking of which, Verhoeven himself was in the second episode of "Prophets of Science Fiction." The episode was about Philip K. Dick. I had no idea Dick was such a messed up guy. His life story would make for a real avant garde biopic. |

Oh yeah. Dick's life was crazy. Though I like how he kind of brought alternate history into the mainstream with "The Man in the High Castle." Except for the way the Nazis/Japanese split the United States, it seems plausible to me (it seems more likely that the Nazis/Japanese would use the Mississippi River to split the United States in half). And Fakey, I'm not really that excited about "Jurassic Park 4." I'm not a huge fan of sequels, unless it's part of a series (e.g. "Lord of the Rings" or "Harry Potter"). Any others I see as arbitrary. Yes, "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" was necessary, seeing as it is based off Crichton's own sequel to "Jurassic Park" (frankly, I prefer "The Lost World" movie to "The Lost World" book by a long shot! This is completely opposite of my feelings with the original "Jurassic Park"). "Jurassic Park 3" was stretching it quite a bit, but I could still tolerate it as it was necessary to see a movie about the public's reaction to the events on Isla Nublar and Sorna becoming known. "Jurassic Park 4" on the ther hand just seems like people trying to milk a classic franchise of all it's worth (like what happened to "The Matrix" and "Jaws"). I think JP 4 is going to include all the plots and subplots from the books that didn't make it into 1 or 2. Nevermind that this was the entire purpose of no 3. Of course, it could alos be a prequel about the making of the park, and all the events that lead to its downfall in movie 1. And finally show John Hammond as the greedy, sociopathic bastard he is.

I don't think we will get a prequel, but you should check out Jurassic Park: The Game. Its not quite a prequel, but its set at around the same time as the first film, but from a completely different perspective. If you don't want to play it I can show you to a walkthrough with no commentary. And its Jurassic Park, how can it not be good? |

I actually really liked the portrayal of John Hammond in the film, a genuinely nice old man who is just disillusioned. The bastard in the book just isn't as interesting. I would love to see a short film about what the working park would be like. In the Lost World novel an interesting idea was that Biosyn wanted to create a hunting reserve with the ultimate prey... badass. Come on who doesn't want to see that>? |

Depends on the person. Most people from our part of the world would not be able to cope at all if just placed in an isolated reserve. |
