Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

They're not celebrating Haloween. Just as the Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico in a similar fashion to Haloween, they're celebrating their own holiday, which has obviously been influenced by the European concept of Hallowe'en.

Maybe so, but they clearly think it's Halloween now - they call it the same thing and paint jack-o-lanterns on the windows for the lack of real ones.

Are you sure that's Halloween? I know some people celebrate Christmas on the 6th.

Also Finnish Independence Day, but I doubt its that.

Orthodox Christians and Armenians here do celebrate Christmas on January 6th, while the remainder celebrate on the conventional date of December 25th. This is because most Christians follow the Julian calendar in which Christmas-time was shifted to correspond with the Roman midwinter celebration (December 25th), while the Orthodox Christians follow the older Gregorian calendar and have never accepted the change. As a result, their celebration of various religious occasions is always 12 days off (not just Christmas but other days like All Saints' Day), and schools here must give two separate vacations to account for each holiday. That being said, both sects celebrate Halloween on the same date, and December 6th is too far off from October 31st to be a result of differing calendars. It may have once been an entire different holiday, but now that it has the same name and artistry as Halloween I have no way to tell them apart (not that anybody here seems to know anyway).

Here I respectfully ask that my bringing up religious matters not be considered grounds for my immediate ban, as I seek only to explain the former post and meant no offense or comparison of anybody's faiths. I apologize.

In that case, have I breached the terms of service, or not?

Why Can't I Hold All These Mongols?

That rule has been in effect since debates between site christians and athiests/whatever johnfaa is. The debatess got out of control, with comments about religion that many considered offensive, several homphobic opinions and a lot of insults.

in other news, I betted three bucks that 'Drunken Sailor' would win the melbourne cup and now I have to avoid my friend ( to whom I owe money)

Bah, Christmas in Winter time was a gimmik used to convert the Nordics. They[The Nordics] had the holiday Yule, which was Odin's yearly hunt. Parents would have their children leave their stockings/socks above the fireplace, usually filled with carrots or other foods for Sleipnir, Odin's eight-legged horse. Odin's usually left behind small toys or treats for the children that left behind treats. Once the Christain's rolled in, they claimed Odin was really St. Nicholas and that Sleipnir was actually a small group of caribou. Leaving food for Sleipnir was turned into leaving food for Santa. Getting presents was unchanged.
