| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Odyssey class is a magnificent class for sure, but I agree about the turning radius. I love my Defiant class, especially with my +22% turn console. That ships can turn 180 degrees like it was record on a phonograph, nice and smooth. Two forward phaser cannons and a transphasic torpedo on the aft, she's got some teeth too. I did a fleet action today, it was lots of fun. We attacked this big ancient EDIT: What's your username, dial? You add friends with Character@Handle, so mine's Ouida@Parasky. We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

There's no difference between the Defiants and the other Tactical Escorts right? You guys have to do the What Lies Beneath Mission. Going I was thinking "Cool this is like Ghostbusters" and it rapidly devolved into "Shit shit shit their in the fans oh Christ!" Edited by lamna, Feb 5 2012, 04:17 PM.

Done it. I'm halfway through the Romulan saga right now. At least that's where I was when I was playing before the FTP change. I'm still there, it's just that I need to be level 37 to get the next mission but I'm only level 36 (I was 34). The missions didn't have level requirements back when I was playing, so I'm a bit ahead of myself here. I want to make Rear Admiral though, level 44 unlocks the ability to call extra Starfleet vessels from the fleet to aid you. I like the Klingon ranks better though. Rear Admiral, Lower Half is a ridiculous title. Brigadier General carries much more respect, and fear. |

It's the Federations new battleship, biggest warship they have ever built. As part of the two year anniversary you got to test her out, and then got box that when you have a high enough level you can get one for free. I think you've missed your chance to get one, but I'm sure they will become available eventually. The Klingons got a similar ship, at least in function. And the Klingons use army ranks? I knew they were barbarians but still, Generals in change of fleets? That's not on. Edited by lamna, Feb 7 2012, 07:44 AM.

I don't think the Klingons have as distinct a separation between "fleet' and "army." My ship has 1500 people on it, every single one of them military personnel. I believe that their thinking is "if you command troops you should have a ship to get them where you need them to go." |

Kind of like the Andermani Empire then, the don't have a separate marine corps they just have the Imperial Andermani Army on ships. I suppose it make sense given their martial culture, pretty much everyone is already in a paramilitary. Doesn't Qo'noS just have the one supercontinent? I suppose that would blunt naval traditions too. |

It's not really a supercontinent, Qo'noS is mostly land with large seas and lakes filling the lowlands. I doubt they ever did much naval warfare in their history. Some definitely, but not largescale like humans. |

Just finished playing Dereliction Duty, now that's a long story but I found it to be very engaging. Hunting pirates, officers with a grudge against you, fleet actions. Well worth checking out in my opinion. http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=235523 |

Sounds entertaining, I still really prefer my Klingon character though. I don't understand people's dislike towards the Klingons. Sure from the Federation's perspective we must be the bad guy, but come on. Who aren't you guys at war with right now? The Romulans, the Remans, the Borg, the Klingons, the Breen, Species 8472, the Strekken, a blatantly obvious proxy war with Cardassia a la True Way, and now the Dominion again? You could say the same about us, but we're Klingon. Only in battle is a Klingon truly Klingon. And how are you even at war with the Romulans? You came to their aid when we invaded them, and they still turned on you! That's what you get for trusting Romulans! You should really come to Qo'noS sometime, First City is really a nice place. You call us backwards but you seem to forget the Klingon Empire is just as technologically advanced, if not more so, than the Federation. It's not like First City is just a barbarian city filled with savages, it's an honest to Kahless city. Skyscrapers, crowds, and all. It's a little more utilitarian than most cities I'll give it that, but that's just the result of a highly militarized society. There's plenty of culture, it's not like there's a bunch of Klingons duking it out in the street. Okay, there's one place where that happens but that's different. It's a spiritual thing, it's in a special ring. There are Loremasters next to it, holy men of Kahless. Worf is there too, if you want to talk with that petaQ. He's boring as hell, but I hear if you kill him he drops good loot. |

It is worth checking out, it's much better than your usual "blow up some ships and beam onto the crippled one". I'll be playing the sequel, Atlas Affair today. It's not a proxy war, we're supporting the legitimate, democratically elected Cardassian government by fighting a minority of extremists. The vast majority of Cardassians want nothing to do with the True Way. And it's hardly our fault if everyone else wants to fight, though the fact that we're holding firm should indicate why war with us is foolish. We're facing all that, and we're still fighting. |
