Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Could one of you explain the basics of this game? It actually sounds quite fun, even though I hate Star Trek.

You'd probably quite like it, it's set a few decades after the Next Generation series and it's a quite dark. The Federation-Klingon Alliance has collapsed are now warring. Romulus has been destroyed and Cardassia is still recovering from The Dominion War. Throw in the fact that the Borg are coming back and Species 8472 is infiltrating everywhere and things are quite grim.

At the end of the day, it's still Star Trek but the optimism is not so nauseating and smug.

You play by flying your ship from system to system, engaging in space combat and then beaming to the planet/station/ship and fighting on foot. That's simplifying it a lot, but that's the basics.

Also there is a huge amount of customization possible, both practical and cosmetic. Currently I'm experimenting with a mines, trying to charge past a foe and deploy mines right on top of them as I wheel around for another pass. Hopefully that will work and I can apply it to the USS Benjamin Sisko's Motherfucking Pimp Hand.

Or you could just go to Risa.

Yes, fleets are the equivalent of raid groups in other mmos. In fact they are raids, Borg raids. The Romulans scare me a bit though, experimenting with Borg tech... What's they're game?
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Indeed you do, I went on one today, fighting the Borg. I've figured how to spend experience though now, so maybe next time I won't be as horrible.

I hear the Romulans are working with the Hirogen too, that can't end well.

They are without honor. Not that it wasn't common knowledge already.

EDIT: Have you been to the gamma quadrant yet? Last time I played I got a mission to fight Jem'hadar inside the Bajoran wormhole and ended up in the gamma quadrant briefly. If not you should at least stop by DS9 and have a drink at Quark's. Come to Quark's, Quark's is fun, don't walk, run!

EDIT EDIT: What's your character's name, lamna?

Well we all know they are without honour but have they gotten any fashion sense? Even the Federation grew out of it's onesie phase.

No I have not, yet, though I will have to come to DS9 at some point. Gotta see the place where The Sisko crushed the Dominion fleet. And see if Vic is still around.

Neema, she's a Trill.

Still trying to figure out a good configuration, I got my first escort, the Warspite. I'm forgiving mines for a while and am going to go with double fore phaser arrays and a aft turret, I reckon a strong chase armament is going to be more useful that broadsides in a nippy little escort.

My Defiant will be named Daring btw.

So I take it your full handle would be lamnay@Neema then? I have no idea how the friend system works. Anyways, my captain is human and her name is Ouida.

I didn't know for sure they had it, I'll have to poke around to find it. But that should be my handle.

Have you noticed how many Normandys there are out there?

Look for Ouida and Neema when you figure out how to work social. And please, for the love of God don't name your ship Normandy.

I got to try out the Odyssey class today as part of the two year anniversary. She manoeuvres like a dying camel but by God she's got a broadside. And then I found out that I got given one, for free, just like that.

Shame she's not really my style, but I'm sure I'll have fun with sooner or later. That aft torpedo launcher seems like a dreadful waste, maybe I could put in a mine launcher and make a podnought. How does the USS Ajax sound?

Nah don't worry I will not name it the Normandy, The Ajax sounds pretty cool.

How does the USS Huxley or USS Wolfe sound?

Wolfe sounds best for a starter ship, save Huxley for if you are a meta-Nerd and get a science vessel.

Oh and do you know how you catch the Q's at Starfleet Academy, I can't figure it out?
