| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Maybe the dragons would be too difficult... I'm more of a Monster Hunter guy than a Skyrim one, and I find that fighting creatures with unpredictable, highly variable behavior (Monster Hunter is quite good at that) makes for a game that can border on infuriatingly tough. Perhaps Skyrim's creators didn't want to make the dragons too difficult to defeat.![]() There's nothing worse than realizing that this guy is a better strategist than you. NOTHING. Or it's the fact that the dragons are a race, so they are going to be generally alike. Was about to topple the tyrant Ulfric but I had to go be a boyfriend. It's worrying how much real life eats into Skyrim time. Oh, does anyone else think Windhelm is a bit of a shithole? How much money has Ulfric been pissing away on his little rebellion that he can't afford to keep his own city in good repair? I bet the sewers are clogged too. Edited by lamna, Nov 29 2011, 04:17 PM.

I was feeling kind of depressed lately (trying not to be rude, but no I don't want to talk about it with total strangers on the internet), so I immersed myself in World of Warcraft (which you can download and play for free, completely legally, from here if you're interested). A few years ago I was one of those people who made fun of WoW and the people who played it, but this game is so awesome. It is one of the single most well thought out fantasy worlds I have ever encountered. It even inspired me to play through the rest of the Warcraft games, and I haven't played an RTS in years. It has plenty of neat stuff in it: The Forsaken, a civilization of undead soldiers that regained their intelligence and lives from their masters; The Orcs, who came to conquer Azeroth from the (literal) shattered remains of their homeworld; the Blood Elves who have become a powerful race at the cost of destructive addiction to magic. There's so much to do in this game, so much epic... Epicness. And the best part is that the link above is a website for a private server that supports 20x experience gain, which means you'll level at a much faster pace. Instead of taking months to reach level 80, you can do it in about five days if you really wanted to. And a few hours after you first start playing your character will be at a high enough level to actually get the cool stuff in the game, instead of it being something to look forward to while you complete and endless stream of useless quests. In closing I would like to say: For the Horde! |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

I love RTS - but I never was tempted to play WOW - because I knew it would be addictive - socially irresponsibly addictive. My boss was telling us how he got addicted and had to seek medical advice and go cold turkey for months - it got so bad he was taking days off work to keep playing or to sleep! I've played most of the Warcraft universe games before WoW, the co-op LAN version was shit tho - impossible to beat the AI enemies - IMPOSSIBLE. Starcraft is another brilliant Blizzard RTS - I loved it - AND - STARCRAFT Is The National Sport of Korea! - and speaking of Korea, Cephy hasn't been on in months! Anyone heard from him? My favourite all time RTS is Battle Realms! It was beautiful! Somewhat limited - loved the map and campaign editor in it. I had a NVidia card with 3D goggles (only works on CRTs) and I used to spend hours in "virtual reality" in the Battle Realms universe in 3D. Also great are the Cossacks series - very well programmed in 2D isometric graphics - with UNLIMITED number of units you can have in the field. You could have battles in it with the Duke of York's 10,000 men! |

What do you think of the Inheritance Cycle? Just finished the last book. It feels kind of... hollow to me. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

No Age of Mythology is the best RTS game ever. I used to play world of warcraft, i got bored because it took so long to level up. I prefer games like fallout anyway. Yeah Russ is right, Monster Hunter is fucking amazing. I can't wait for the next one ![]() Cephy updates his deviantart quite frequently though. |

Total War isn't really a fantasy game, though there are plenty of Mods, including a new Zelda one. I've not read the Eragon books. Temeraire looks much more interesting to me, the Napoleonic Wars with Dragons. Apparently Peter Jackson is interested in adapting it for film. |

That was entirely his fault. The game doesn't force you to play that much. Don't get me wrong, you can spend all day playing the game, but all this "video game addiction" and "sex addiction" and various other non-existent addictions are just excuses people make for being idiots. In fact I doubt the existence of the entire concept of addiction, but that's a topic for a different thread. |

I think he's still finishing the new Dam Busters film, Dam Busters II: Tirpitz Buster, I think Nicholas Cage is playing Barnes Wallis in that. Then he has the Hobbit films to make From what I can tell it's no further along that "Huh, that sounds cool, I wonder if it would work". I just went to play some Skyrim but I had to come back here to tell you what happened. I was in the Inn in Falkreath and this Orc was being really grumpy. So I talked to her, tried to get her to calm down. She started a fight and I ended it. So I'm standing over her still warm corpse, when two guys walk up and stand either side of the body, one slow claps and the other pulls out a flute and starts playing the stupidest little tune. Probably a "you had to be there" moment but it made me laugh. Edited by lamna, Nov 30 2011, 04:29 PM.
