Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Why Can't I Hold All These Mongols?

@Magoo, yeah Sydney has a fair bit of rain in winter and spring. it can rain in autumn, but not much. Summers are very humid here.
personally I prefer winter, mainly because summer is annoyingly humid. I prefered summer in london to be honest ( I was in london for a month last year)
Anyhow, first thing in going to do in skyrim is check out the wilderness they made, I liked fallout 3's wildlife so I hope they raise the bar this time around.

I just watched a video covering the races, and I was quite impressed with the elves. Most people just go with "pretty people with pointy ears" but these reminded me of the older Scandinavian elves.

I hope you can modify your characters body, I want to make a female archer but I want to give her the body of an actual archer.

Well teh mods for Elder Scrolls are pretty good in the mean time, especially Waalxs creature pack, it adds real animals to the environment and gives it a more lived in feel. Its great!

But yeah, around this time of year, my mind turns to the gory, grotesque, and the ghastly. Hell I'm the proper shape for my Halloween costume, so you can expect lots of children to be scarred for life.

Since the arrival of man some 40,000 years ago, Australia has had approx the same level of population of large predators! Thylacines have never been populous on the mainland, and they were never open country hunters. Wedge tailed eagles do prey on wallabies and young kangaroos, and are no really that endangerd - the stupid useless bounty system of killing them (just because they took the occasional lamb) has stopped years ago. But wedgetail eagles probably get most of their food from roadkill I'd say, you can see 4 or 5 of them at the site of a dead kangaroo on the Eyre highway.
Before humans screwed the australian ecosystem, there were also a three giant terrestrial reptiles (two varanus species and one mekosuchine crocodile) which were likely the apex predators,as well as the Thylacoleo and larger Sarcophilus species

Quinkana mekosuchine croc was extinct millions of years before ANY humans got here. Their relatives on Pacific islands probably were wiped out by Polynesians though, but that's not Australia as such.

Thylacleo became extinct millions of years before humans evolved.

Aboriginals may have encountered the giant varanids, there are tales of creatures which are possibly folk memories of them. The perenti is fairly a common varanid, they are HUUGE, not as big as a komodo obviously, but they're very big, and can be dangerous when cornered.

There was also a GIANT python larger than any living snake, and birds much much larger than emus...

The megafauna that became extinct after the arrival of humans 40,000 years ago was probably already on the way out - as Australia's climate dried out. Sure, the fire land management policies of the Aboriginals favoured the spread of grasslands and scrubland, but I can't see Diprotodontidae surviving till 1788.

- internet told be quinkana lived even in late pleistocene ,up to 40 000BC
- ^
- you mentioned even more late pleistocene large carnivores
- Its very likely that humans were ultimate cause of extinction of Australian megafauna, isn't it weird that all of them went extinct just after the humans settled australia? And its already proven that climate back then was similar to today's australian climate, and most/all of them were adapted to arid climate regions :/

Dude the internet told me there were hot girls in my area. You can't trust that thing.

Just finished Game of Thrones and wow, I really want to see the next season.

One thing I was very impressed with was the violence against horses. Often you'll fine people happy to cut people in half but leave the horses unharmed, either due to squeamishness or because they can't do the special effects. Give how many horses have died in warfare over the years, seeing them end up just fine in fiction always irked me.

well If you like this kind of realism,if they follow the books as much as they followed it in first season, there will be some children killed etc.

oh,this sounds perverted ^_^

In books they seem much more willing to have horses hacked apart by the dozen.

To be honest it does sound more interesting than it did last time you urged me to watch it.

Quite a misleading title though, it sounds like it would be about early armoured warships. Though that is quite daft, naval films have to be be set in either the Age of Sail or WW2 anything else simple does not get made apparently.

Sounds a bit iffy though, I'm supposed to root rebels who go against the King?

Go against the king in this, suspend your belief in the monarchy for a bit and you will enjoy it. Plus its a British production with British actors. You won't find any embarassing accents in this gem :)
