Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Okay, in order to get some AWESOME shots of alien planets (Pangaea in particular), I need a good planetary simulation/design program. Although Celestia looks cool, it doesn't seem to have any way to easily create customized worlds... Does anyone have an alternative (or an add-on for Celestia)?

I can make you one in photoshop, I'm pretty good. It's not a problem at all either, it only takes a couple hours at most and it's good practice.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

That would be great! Can you make one of Pangaea? Maybe a shot from high orbit, with the sun in the background? (Pangaea's actual geographic features haven;t been terribly well established; there's a map, but all it really needs is one big landmass that connects to the south pole [not the north]).

I too have an interest in Planetary Simulators, but I'll need to create a map that isn't a 3D model in Spore, which may take a while.
I support Winter!

"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!"

I don't know about fully functional planetary simulators, but if you have Photoshop this set of tutorials you should to be able to portray your planets quite easily. Using satellite images from Google Earth I was able to achieve photo-realistic planets within a month's time.

I can vouch for that. Took six years to get that good though, still not good enough.

Parasky, are you still planning to make me one..? As long as it features a single large continent that extends to the south (but not north) icecap, it's Pangaea in my book. No pressure though; it's totally up to you if you want to do it or not. :")

Yes but I need to know a couple of things first. When I make it I'll have to go through a series of steps, and during these steps I can make additional things if you'd like. A geographical world map with rivers, mountains, and biomes labeled. Likewise I could use that to make a map you can edit into a political map of the world.

I need to know about the atmospheric and crust composition, and also the color of the plants to get it right.

Well, I was really going for a nice shot of the planet from orbit, maybe with the sun rising along one edge... Kinda like the one below (which you made! :P )

But anyway, the atmosphere is pretty much like Earth's; although the composition if (obviously) a bit different, it's not going to produce any sort of visual change. As for geography, the main continent has a mountain range along its western side, with numerous river deltas between the mountains and the ocean. One large river extends from north to south down the middle of the continent, and the oceans surrounding it are dotted with numerous small islands.
As for plants, they're green, like on Earth, but the green tends to be a bit duller. It's kinda like the "SE Estuary" skin for this forum, but a little darker.
As for other stuff, Pangaea has two moons and orbits a star similar to Earth's sun.
