| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Hi, Nano here! I'm fairly new to spec-evo still. Jurassic Split is still going strong, but I probably couldn't have gotten this far and plausable without some help. (Thanks, Bananaboy and Forbidden!) I was thinking abou having another project, though. So, here's some scenarios I thought of: 1. Alien world, begins with bacteria, evolves. 2. Alien world, seeded with earth life. Creatures would be along the lines of: Producer: Stromatolites(?), the sort of algae that grows flat on rocks and stuff Herbivore: Sea snail, little algae-eating fish Predator: Mantis shrimp, frogfish Plankton: Copepods, free-floating algae Planktonivore(?): Common jellyfish, scallop Various decomposer bacteria Everything then evolves. 3. Prehistoric life seeded on alien world I think I could handle two projects, as long as both have a bit of help. Which one would be best? |

I was thinking mostly marine stuff, so Anomalocarids, Metriorhynchids, Mososaurs, Ammonites, Placoderms, sharks... Anything that's interesting and swims, really. |

Then I´d say the Metriorhynchids have a very bad future; they´d quickly get outcompeted by smaller Mosasaurs. And the predatory Placoderms would probably be outcompeted by sharks as their heavy armor makes them rather slow hunters. |

If the Metryorhyncid was something big and dangerous, such as Liopleurodon's probable main rival, Dakosaurus, then they might stand a chance. Or maybe we could just leave out mososaurs. Maybe leave out sharks, too, so the placoderms get their go. |
