| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. I know that there are some pretty realistic concepts of alien lifeforms that I've seen around, but what I've noticed is that the technology of many aliens is WAY to earth-like, such as guns, dwellings, starships, and tools, heck, alien technology might not be based off of metals at all, it could be based on telekenesis, organic manipulation, crystals, or materials not even native to earth. I want to see some more realistic technology of alien races. |

Yes, but we have help from machines. Let me clarify what I meant by organic technology. I'm thinking of organic technology as in living machines like a bioship. |

Simple answer: Yes, of course. Complex Answer: The biology that would evolve on different planets is always going to be different from each other. Different characteristics, biochemistry, form of development, and so on, can all play a role. So, does breeding a vehicle instead of GEing still cound as a bioship? To a point we did that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we were breeding horses to ride for years before we took to basic electricity (I don't mean just getting them to mate, but we chose certain characteristics that riders would want. I know there were people breeding sheep for different color variations as early as three hundred B.C). Now, considering that, let's return to my first point. Biologies are different on different planets. We all know of the Bug Wars and the movies/books/tv series based on that. Now, the reason for that war to start was because the bugs could travel through space. The soft-science in most of that series was far from accurate but the idea of organisms evolving the ability to leave a planet isn't impossible. There are scenarios that, in the inifinity of space are bound to happen, allow this to happen. Finally, let's say a species is on that planet that is like us: domesticating, breeding, and planning purposes for their live stock. A sort of space-horse, if you will, would technically be a bioship. Though, to them it would be no more advanced then riding a chairot. |

Though I'm not sure what bug wars is, your point about breeding already space fairing species is quite a good one. |

I assume Bug Wars is from Starship Troopers. The whole remise of the series was that a violent race of bug-like extraterrestrials (complete with different castes and crazy biology) evolved a "Plasma Bug" that could build up plasma in its body and use the pressure to fire eggs into space to colonize other worlds. You should watch it, it isn't a bad movie (despite how stupid it sounds). Really the Bugs are the inspiration for the Zerg, as the Zerg are the same way. |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself
