Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Registration is free and instantaneous.

From what I know, they can get pretty damn big if their habitat is huge, and they have enough food and heat to support them. However, it also depends on the species. My pet snake could potentially grow to belonger than I am tall, but his tank is too small to allow that.

You should post this on either General Spec or Biology Discussion at Science Central.

Moved.

Titanoboa was 40-50 feet long. As Fakey Brutal Sniper said, snakes can get big pretty easily (look at the Burmese Python in the Everglades, one was big enough to eat a croc whole before its claws ripped open the python).

cool, my first moved topic. :D

well, i'm talking about the body plan in general, not just earth snakes. i wan't to know if they can get to be, i don't know, if you replace the trantula in deadly creatures with a person and go to the first boss?

p.s in trying and failing to find a picture of a large snake, i may have answered my own question.

Reticulated Pythons are the largest living, up to 12m IIRC.

How big in aliens? Depends. Depends on circulatory system, feeding requirements, bone structure, muscles...
Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea.

...i feel that the creature i'm thinking of wouldn't get that big, but i don't need them to be. i just thought it would be interesting for them to get so huge, like lobsters.
