Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Australia would be cooler if it was more American. Seriously, think about it. Gunslingers, cowboys, and money. Lots of money. Gunlaws are really the only thing I don't like about Australia. You guys can't have like any guns, it's so hard to get one. I, on the other hand, am going to the gunshow sometime (there's always a gunshow in Kansas) and buy something awesome. I could get an AK-47, there's seriously a lot of those. But I'm thinking something more practical, like an M1 Garand or Mosin Nagant. What I really want is the 1898 Krag-Jorgenson at the local antique mall. It's $500, but well worth the money.
We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar.

"The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming

Whenever you say American, it makes me wince. It shouldn't, i blame the Canadians i know. But an American could be someone from Uruguay, Guatemala, Cuba, Haiti, Greenland, Argentina, the Falklands...

Not all of Central America is messed up, Costa Rica and Belize are doing quite well for themselves.
Hmm, I just noticed that they are the two nations that have basically let other nations (the USA and UK respectively) handle their defence.

And it's really time the USA started trading and opening up to Cuba. The embargo has done nothing to get rid of the reds, their still hanging on well after most of the rest of the world came to it's senses. Opening up is the best way to get them a bit more freedom and everyone stands to make more money. Plus it would help isolate them from Chavez's "Bolivarian" Bollocks.

I do feel sorry for the Cubans who've hoarded their cars for 50 years, thinking when things open up they will be classics when really they are junk.

Oh and there is a another good thing if you're British, it's much easier to go to commie countries if you want enjoy Cuba or gawp at the DPRK.

And guns don't cause gun crime. Switzerland has a shit load of guns, heck every able bodied man is given an assault rifle, and any woman who wants can get one too and they have very low gun crime. If you compare gun laws and murder rates it's all over the place, the two don't match up.

Criminals are going to get guns, if they don't respect the laws about taking peoples lives, why would they respect the ones about firearms.

Lamna has a point, In australia, gun crime is low, but so is all other non-gun related crime. it has more to do with our cops than with our guns. heck before martin bryant we could order guns in the mail and we still had lower crime rates than the USA.

Well here we actually have places for you to specifically to shoot guns. Do you not just enjoy shooting targets? Why wouldn't you want to buy a machine that uses explosions to hurl a chunk of metal close to the speed of sound? The sense of security and power you get from realizing that you have a tool with which you can take down a full grown man or dangerous animal with but a twitch of your finger is reason enough to own a gun. The point isn't that you use the gun, it's that you can use it if you ever want/need to.

The more people who have guns, the more people who get shot.
It's actually the opposite. The more people who have guns, the less people who get shot. Most of the time when you pull a gun on somebody who has already pulled a gun on you, they run off. Taking away guns doesn't stop gun-related crime because the kind of people who use guns for crime will get them whether they can legally acquire them or not. It just makes it harder for regular people to defend themselves. I don't care how good you are at fighting or how many martial arts you know, you're not going to be able to dodge a bullet at point blank range. Not unless every time you throw a punch you break the sound barrier.

Ah being raised without the feeling of power results in me failing to see the feeling. Its not that im not used to guns, every wednesday I get to shoot the SA-80 semi auto rifle. So i know the buzz you get. I also go on combat exercises so me and my friends get to run around shooting blanks at 'enemies'.

"Research and statistics have shown that guns intensify crime situations, and increase the likelihood of a more violent or lethal outcome."

Guns are legal in all of the top offenders

Im playing devils advocate but each of those nations have differing and possibly more important reasons for why crime is so high. South Africa, you have all the racial tensions and large amounts of less well off people combined with massive mansions... Columbia drugs, Guatemala drugs, Estonia is the only one which is not obvious.

it's the one's you wouldn't think that prove it. :P
Remember, not everyone in those countries is 'in the business', or feels emnity.

There are many other countries with 'good reasons' that aren't on there, though there is no good reason for gun murder, such as the UK with its BNP, the DRC, China...
And also, countries like Zimbabwe with most people being deprived of guns have a lower rate than you'd expect from your reasons.

But they must be safe, they are not even on the list. Good god, I'm glad I did not go to Estonia on holiday, that would have been a disaster. Nope, I'll have to go enjoy Basra instead.

Holben, it's everyone vs you. We win.

Guess what else you can buy here. Grenades, Disarmed tanks, fighter jets, and flamthrowers. And those disarmed tanks, jets, and flamethrowers are pretty easy to fix.
