| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. People, being able to see you? IN PUBLIC!? Good God we might as well have just invited Stalin to run things. Britain is about the size of a big US state, Michigan, Minnesota. And Wales and the Welsh are on the whole, both lovely. |

I live in Australia Parasky, cameras are all over the place. they're on the motherf*cking schoolbuses and they're in the busy streets. well at least in sydney. But my mind isn't made up or anything, ive still got to get money, qualifications, decide whether i want to go to university here or there (depending on the course length). but my main choices are London (probably Kent or Earls Court), San Francisco (I don't know what area though), Seattle (mainly because I have a friend who is moving there (hes actually already got the money and everything, hes just got to go to university to get some qualifications) but i also like the sound of it) or Toronto (yet again a friend is moving there, here its nice) so far London is winning,Ive already spent some extended time there, plus i know dial, so ive at least got the gist of the place, and someone to hang out with and call up in the first few weeks when i don't know much people. San Fran is up there. but im still not dead certain. |

The cameras aren't being used to create a database of you or something. If you are in Britain and tweet anything less than a bomb threat, you'll be fine. You'd never get charged anyway. Britain has great opportunities for everyone. And benefits. Stuffy eh? Most of your Jamaican-sourced slang, and an incredibly high proportion of the rest, came through Britain. We have the highest teenage pregnancy rate in Europe. And rules? Nothing worse than the USA, where wrestling with a bear can get you imprisoned. Also, we have free health care and look after our citizens.

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

I think Holben's trumped you there...:-) I hate America's stupid war on drugs.... In some states, "three strikes" policy means a teenager who gets busted with a teency bit of marijuana on three separate occasions can be sent to an adult gaol (alright - I know you call them jails! ) for a long time... I think it's scary how much money the feds there have spent on the un-winnnable war on drugs, and the USA actually has a "penal industry" - it's a billion dollar industry - with massive lobby power. Most countries have penal systems (look at my country, started off as a penal colony), but the USA has a penal industry. There are more people in prison in the USA, than there are prisoners in the rest of the world combined!I'm not criticizing America, or Americans - I love America, I love Rock N Roll and Harley Davidson - but I do hate that evil fuck Nixon, and his snidey little minion Kissinger - Kissinger should be on trial at the Hague for the bombing of Pnom Penh (Cambodia wasn't a combatant in the Vietnam war) and the assassinations and coups that went on in Chile and all the other skullduggery the CIA were involved in, in the name of "freedom". Nixon invented and funded the "war on drugs", and the whole "HMO" scam which fucked over US's leading and world class health system. A just and free and equal access health system for all is NOT COMMUNISM! Phew - looks like I'm not going to the USA - but I would like to visit... Chicago - and take a long road trip down through moonshine country West of the Appalachians, then south into Tennessee/Alabama and down to the Mississipi delta... But unfortunately, Greece, Russia and Mongolia, maybe Turkey, are ahead in my places to visit. One thing I will say about the USA - you have a Bill of Rights! Britain does not have one - Australia doesn't have one. Here we DON'T have the right to free speech, there is NO SUCH THING, and we don't have the right to remain silent - remaining silent at certain types of trials (interrogations) can get you a 5 year stretch for contempt of court! And we aren't guaranteed a right to a "pursuit of happiness"! That's the best one (as well as guns, guns - it's just about impossible to own guns in Australia - guns don't kill people, people do!) |

Right Kent isnt surveyed at all really. In England also the drinking age is younger, we have much more noble drinking places, pubs rather than bars actually most age limits are completely disregarded in Britain. THe police are too busy giving out fines for 'easy' crimes such as speeding. Freedom of Speech pah! Its great means we don't have so many Neo-Nazis and its why Fred Phelps is banned from Great Britain. Oh and Kent isnt that expensive, get a nice flat overlooking the Medway for a decent price.

Oh yea, that's another good point. Come to America; our nation is bigger than the entire continent your other choice is on. Or you could move to Canada, that's part of America too (but don't tell the British that, they don't know yet). |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

Hardly anybody here actually believes in the war on drugs. The only reason its still around is because the DEA is ultra corrupt and probably makes billions selling the drugs they confiscate. They're practically government funded drug lords. I really wouldn't worry about it unless you're in the Midwest. And even then it depends on where in the Midwest you are. And of course the prison system is a billion dollar industry, our prisons are privatized. They're not owned or operated by the government at all. Except for maybe like Fort Leavenworth here in Kansas and Gitmo. And don't you criticize us for our secret CIA wars in South America. It was for freedom, have you ever even seen South America? It's ruled by criminals and dictators. Seriously, everything south of the Rio Grande is just overflowing with criminals who are powerful enough to undermine their government's authority. It's like the Middle East with the terrorist cells, but with shadow narco-states instead of regions ruled by warlords. What do you expect us to do, just sit back and let all this violence come across our border before we do anything about it? |

The corrupt narco-states are there because they were preferable to leftist administrations... Noriega was a darling of the USA till he fell foul of them. Cocaine was a huge cash cow for the US sponsored Contras in Nicuragua. There's rumours that it was the CIA who first brought crack cocaine into America and introduced it into Southside Chicago and black neighbourhoods in LA. I'm not saying that Chavez or whatever are better than narco-right wing leaders - but - much of the reason for the chaos of government in Latin America is covert destabisation by the most powerful entity in the region. I actually admired Chavez at the start of his career - but he's a complete lunatic now - ideological wanker who will drag Venezuela down with him. Fortunately they're mostly being left alone now - to run things as they see it - the CIA is graciously allowing Chilians to keep their democratically elected representatives in power, and I don't think they even give them a once over any more before approving them. And I'd suggest that a thaw in relations with Cuba is well overdue. All Fidel Castro ever wanted to do was kick out the likes of Batista and keep them out - he wanted friendship with they USA, but was cold shouldered - much like Ho Chi Minh. I know Fidel has fucked up, lied and not delivered - used the old "state of emergency" for decades trick to avoid elections and democracy etc. And I have to been to South America by the way. Went to Punta Arenas in Chile before Kissinger/Nixon sponsored 1973 coup de tat and murder of Salvador Allende. Buenos Aires in Argentina, and Rio De Janeiro. The interference in Chilean politics is one of the worst crimes (in the top 20?) of the 20th Century - they are a well educated, mostly rational, civilizied (European?) nation - but Kissinger and Nixon didn't think they made the right choice by voting for Allende - so those two decided for the 10,000,000 population (one of the main reasons they didn't like him, was his appropriation/nationalisation of Chile's copper mines - Nixon's mining buddies were unhappy). I'd also love to go back to Latin America. Especially Rio. I have a friend who lives a tad North of Rio, runs a small restaurant, which does "Asian / Australian" cuisine. Seems bizarre - but no - they DON'T serve meat pies, or kangaroo. Contemporary Australian cuisine contains a lot of Asian input. I can't think for the life of me why Sea Scorp would want to leave Australia tho. Sydney YES! Yes - I've travelled a bit - Europe as a child, and Asia as an Adult. So, I was in Bagdad before most of you were in Dad's bag. Edited by Zoroaster, Jun 7 2011, 08:30 PM.
