Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

The Lamarckoid is an idea of mine for a new species I wanted your input on.

Here's how it works.

As you know, all RL creatures have most of their genome consisting of useless, or "junk" DNA. Not so my Lamarckoid. in it's genome are multiple different "functional" DNA strands, each coding for a different functional "creature" or trait. Hormones will turn these on or off while the creature is in the womb, adjusting it to it's environment. For example:

1. Lamarckoid-1 is pregnant and has scaly skin, THEN is introduced to arctic conditions.
2. As a result, it's body releases hormones instructing it's embryo to turn on genes for growth of thick fur and blubber.
3. Lamarckoid-2 is born arctic-adapted
4. HOWEVER, if Lamarckoid-2 was to be brought into a desert, it's offspring might have sand-colored camouflage, or water-storing humps or other such things. The same basic idea of it adapting would be true for most any environment it was introduced to. It might even be possible to have a full ecosystem, with all the creatures being the same species.

What do you think people of SE?

Epigenetics.

Unless this creature has a history everywhere it can't preempt and will not survive.

I have made some conceps about fast evolving creature, but they evolved there strange biology by the planet terrain, climate and ETC.An example for a fast evolving creatures is from a moon call veloreon 7,E(a moon orbiting a gas giant name Veloreon 7)wich is similar to Io in the way it terrain quickly change, the terrain change as season change on Earth. They have evovled a small orb that have a fluid inside every cell in it body, wich break and force the DNA(technically it another type of nuclei acid)to change when the creatures is going in pressure(sorry I know this isn't th best worb, but i forgot how to tell it in Inglish since spanich is my native language). When the creatures DNA change it give birth(wich I still havent desided if it would asexual or seporduction)to a juveline wich is more adapted to live in the new enviroment.Other creates evovle more slow that creatures on Earth wich live in a subterran tunnel system in a planitamus(Tetorgian 123435(this is the number in the oorto cloud object in the Tetorgian system)),creatures in this ecosystem are like zombies moving slow and trying to spend to much energy, also the creatures arent very big the biggest creatures on this planet is the size of a crab. Most carnivorus creatures feed on small gastropod like creatures that feed from algae like organisms in the wall, flor and roof. The are other slow evolving organisms I have made but they evolved in place that are to strange for life to appear(like a planetary ring).Other creatures evolves by merging with other organisms in the planet(Roboron 4),wich the creatures is like a colonial virus that have some characteristic with fungi on Earth. All life on Roboron 4 doesnt have DNA,not even nuclei acid, they have evolved a different way to store a code simuilar to DNA.I have made other way extraterrestrial organisms reproduce, wich in some case the creature evovle more fast.

Why are you always such a jerk, Fallingwhale? At any rate, I can't really see this evolving naturally without some really insane evolutionary pressures. However, as an artificial life-form, it's possible...
