Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

I'm going back to basics.

Did anyone else get an involuntary shudder when they read man after man or nemo ramjet's all tomorrows?

I know I sure did. There was just something about those two books that unsettles me.

Or do I just have a weak constitution?

Well that is a very short term way of looking at it. What happens in a thousand years? Anyway there will alway, in all large societies with freedom of thought that don't believe. There people would probably be persecuted.

I see what you're saying - but I think the whole issue of science/religion conflict is basically a quirk of Western European (and thus US) thought, not something that would be likely to apply in a society as wildly different as a new planet. Even today, the science/religion conflict is basically Anglo-American; Latin America doesn't seem to have any contradictions between being deeply religious and a fairly major place for biological research.

I actually have been writing (though they're on hold for now) stories where lots of planets were colonized by slower-than-light ships launched by all kinds of different organizations (nations, religious groups, ideological groups, things like the Long Now Foundation, etc.), so I've been thinking about this for a while...

And it seems to be Islamic as well, which is a shame given Islams beginnings. If the Turks reforms works then it might go back to the way it was. I don't think that there would ever be a one religion world. People just are not suited to it.

But what are those "another man after man" things? Did they make them themselves? What are they?

I actually think anomalistic abilities are possible. Many members of my family are actually psychic, so if ya diss psychics ya diss my family. I'd explain why I think they're possible but I'm tired now. I wanna see those after man shows :D !! Maybe youtube has the shows there !!

Really? Get them to take the James Randi test. One million dollars just to demonstrate their ability is real. If you don't need the money I am sure a charity would like it.

http://www.randi.org/joom/challenge-info.html

I think the After Man anime is something that has been lost into the mists of time.
I know this'll sound weird, but if someone does this test and succeeds they'll wanna experiment and tinker with the individuals brain, nervous system, see what makes the TICK ! In reality thats what'll happen, and the thing is would a person with such great abilities be considered human anymore ? Would they be cast out and shunned , because normal humans find them a threat, they'll think some of these people could be terrorists, if a person were to rifine their telekinetic abilities imagine what they could do, a pyrokinetic , imagine the threat most would think they could pose. People today wouldn't be ready for such a thing. In Greecian times, they were looked upon as gods, but in Medeval and Colonial times they were thought of as witches and messengers of the Devil. Today they'd be viewed as villains and terrorists. You can see how people would react to something like that, a simple test could open up a can of worms.

I know I sound crazy but ,stranger things have happened ! By the way you can probably tell I loooovvveee the show HEROES !!

lol, but you can't use your mind to make fire. There is no way for it to work according to current physics.

You can't break the laws of physics. Then you would go to prison.

Well the law of physics is constantly changing, if the abilities all have some sort of telekinetic bases, then for example the pyrokinetics ability is to create fire, but matter cannot be created, no for that the limited telekinetic ability manipulates the actual fire,or create it by subconciously manipulating elements to get fire. It's really complicated but in a way to me it makes sense. As for telepathy , the electrical signals created by the brain are telekinetically picked up by the user from other people (or organisms if you can talk with animals) and heard by the user, maybe even manipulated if experienced enough *MIND CONTROL* Yummers !!

And yes the sitcom Sylar and The Bennets would be great
Mom: Whatcha want for dinner guys
Sylar: Brai.... I mean cheese fries
*Audience Laughs* Oh and off topic I think Mohinder is becoming a roach !!

LOL I was properly laughing at that. You sound just like those psychic pseudoscience people do. Nice one :p Changing laws of physics lol we are not in a black hole. Those people make me mad/laugh my head off.

Well you are claiming physics is wrong with no evidence, which is about the same as saying there is a wormhole from just outside the sol system to every star in the universe so the cosmos only looks old.

Oh God no I refuse to claim the law of physics is wrong, i just said it changes ;) But lets forget what i said, please ... ! I just like the ideas of humans running around with super powers like, pyrokinesis, acidic secretion, magnetokinesis, inducing hallucinations, regeneration, lung adaptation, etc... It's just cool to think and imagine a world like that. But I guess it'll never happen :( *looks at a book about genetic engineering and begins to laugh in an evil way !! *

And it would be cool if the Empire had become a single united nation. But it didn't the laws of physics have not changed. We just know more about them. When I said there is no way for it to work according to current physics, what I meant was IT IS IMPOSSIBLE! But of course that would be unscientific, I would cheerfully stake my life on it being impossible, but can't say for sure, as we can not be entirely certain of nothing but maths.
