| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. Cryptomundo shouldn't be used; they use weasel words like mad. That isn't even the profile of a moa. |

Here is an unverified cryptid reporting I found; Farmers and fishers living in Eastern China have reported a strange aquatic reptile living in the rivers; There is an account of a family who captured a strange creature near the rivers when fishing. They went fishing in a river near their house, and they spotted a large animal basking on the riverbank. The creature attempted to escape into the water, but they managed to entangle the animal in a net. The animal was about 1.5 meter long, and looked like a crocodile, except it had a 'slender snout', 'strangely-shaped head' and 'smooth, lizard-like skin'. They brought it home alive. One family member suggested it was an aligator, but the animal didn't look like any creature they had seen before. The grandmother thought the animal was a dragon, and they freed it in the place where they found it before the 'dragon' brought bad luck. And another account of a farmer who saw a large (about 2 meter long?), reptilian and strange-looking animal slide into the water when he approached the riverbank. |

It's an unverified report, I dunno if it is even a real cryptid, but I think the description clearly describes a champsosaur or other choristodere of some kind.... |

Not so fast. It just sounds like a monitor lizard to me. Also, I didn't know that CRYPTOMUNDO was an unreliable source. A new species, perhaps, be still nothing more than that. Speaking of water reptiles, I once watched and episode of MonsterQuest where tape recordings of what sounded like sonar were made in Lake Champlain. Lake Champlain is the supposed home of a well-kown "lake monster". . .and also the site of fossils of an Pleistocene beluga whale. Make of that what you will.

I didn't know there were monitor lizards this North, then again Korea is infested with runaway pet varanids, so... But the reason I posted this when I thought this could just as well be a monitor lizard like Squibb suggested was because that the creature was described as being 'crocodile-like but with lizard skin' and having a 'slender snout'. |

I actually think that the Lake Champlain monster is one of the few lake monsters that actually have a chance of existance. And Cryptomundo isn't a bad source.... |

The 'Fat Snake' is the Tsuchinoko. Know your cryptids' names. And give a more reasonable example. At Cryptomundo they never said the creature in the photo was the Tsuchinoko, in contrary, they gave the photo to suggest that the identity of the Tsuchinoko is an escaped blue-tongued lizard. Shall I quote directly from what they wrote beneath the photo? "Skeptics dismiss Tsuchinoko sightings as simple cases of mistaken identity, suggesting the creatures are nothing more than snakes in the process of digesting large meals, or perhaps even escaped exotic pets such as the blue-tongued lizard." And cryptozoology as a whole is not a reliable thing, based on hoaxes, rumors, legends and unconfirmed sightings. Cryptomundo at least provides more than one can find out by digging into the internet for days, and has the more reliable sighting records. Edited by Cephylus, Mar 24 2011, 06:15 AM.

They never say something is real so they can claim to be right no matter the outcome. They also separate admitting that it is a skink from themselves by saying skeptics. http://www.cryptomundo.com/cryptozoo-news/knobbyvid-2/ This video lacks their token skepticism and is extremely fake; I think bigfoot flips him the bird. |

Who in the world wants to be wrong? Nobody in crptozoology claims that something is 100% real, except for the damn dinosaur-obsessed creationists, because everything is unsure in the entire subject of cryptozoology, and nobody wants to turn out wrong. |

CRYPTO means hidden or not found. CRYPTOzoology is the study of animals that are not found. It means unsure zoology. FW just doesn't like ot be wrong on even the tiniest things, |
