Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

I know Parasky just made a similar topic, but it's only for exobiology apparently, so I'm making another thread. There are lots of cool things on deviantart. Anybody can find some good examples?

Very intriguing

Projects:
Amammalia: A strange place where mammals didn't make it and the land is, once again, dominated by archosaurs.

Oceanus: An endless sea dotted with islands, reefs, and black holes. Literally endless, literal black holes.

So just asking. Do you guys really believe that some dinosaurs survived a few thousand extra years. If they did that would make an awesome documentary, movie or Primeval episode.

animals like Lystrosaurus survived a few million years after Permian-Triassic extinction - and I am sure I have read somewhere that dinosaurs in Antartica and Australia may have survived a few millions years after the K-T extinction...

Just about everything by Povorot fits this category:

http://povorot.deviantart.com/gallery/9348116

http://povorot.deviantart.com/gallery/9348132

He's created a very conservative no-KT scenario which nonetheless has great creatures and even (gulp) a sophont.

Edit: Ooh, and he's also done some aliens.

Dinosaurs did survive the K-T. They survive to the present. In fact, I love eating dinosaurs and I see them more than mammals (except for humans) every day. I once also had a pet dinosaur. They're vernacularly called 'birds'.

And if you have noticed, my avatar is a scavenging Holocene dinosaur.

Here's a hypothetical feline-like predatorial primate from the Cenezoic:

Here's azhdarchid analogous aliens from Hyro's exobiology project:

Hyrotrioskjan's whole gallery is filled with coolio stuff.

Yes, Povorot has a good, realistic and not-so-traditional project. With beautiful illustrations of course.

I have a similar project, a terraforming project actually, it has no name, but it's dominated by the Protobird Dinosauroids (no, they're very different from Povorot's dinosauroids) and lots of strange beaked dinosaurs that mostly resemble clawed and tailed birds. I tried to make it weird (in design). I have some sketches for the apex predator, the sophonts, the biggest herbivore and lots of lemur-loris-galago thingy primates.
