| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. It's relatable with historical and modern elements. I creates a sense of wonder in the fact that he's an alien be It also makes you worry about him, because you get to see him develop as a person and he's being hunt across the galaxy. Or something like that. |

Henry you dick! Mr. Hands "Am I boring? Depends, do you like watching documentaries about 19th and 18th century warfare, having complicated feelings about bismark and crying over the film of winston churchill putting flowers on FDR's grave. If so then I'm so fucking boring. " | |

It's a very original story with brain and heart. I'm serious about you publishing it. More on my story now. I movie is called 'My Name is Eli' and the hero, the alien prince, is named Eli by his surrogate family after a comical scene where the hero refers to himself by a very, very long name and title and one of the names sounds like or has the word Eli. His name is also Eli because of the subtle religious symbolism. Like many characters in the Bible, the hero is also uncertain of his future and unsure that he has what it takes to become a leader but has experiences that turns him into one. I saw the movie "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" again earlier tonight. Coincidentally, the title character in that film mentions the theme of my story: 'Nobility is not a birthright. It is defined by one's own actions.' Eli is of noble birth but not a noble person. His adventures on Earth shows him what he's really made of. What kind of monarchy should Eli's planet have? I'm thinking an absolute monarchy but would audiences be sympathetic to the plight of an absolute monarch? Maybe a constitutional monarchy but Eli's title should be so important that the general would go out of his way to send his best men to another planet to find him and I'm not sure that would make him important enough. What do you guys think? |

Singe- you just put a thought into my head... aliens wouldnt need to probe us to see how we reproduce, they just need to watch porn lol lets just hope they look at the right videos though ![]() Yorick- I wouldnt risk it with a name like Eli, Walking with Eli sounds to much like Book of Eli. Perhaps another religious name like nebachenezzar ? |

It would be noticed? Are you sure? Maybe the best bet is to hide as the most conspicuous person around... as most people are in the majority (by its very definition) he's far less likely to be, say, a spacecraft designer than a village handyman... Nevermind the difference between a rocket scientist and a handyman.
Do you really want to go to the country with the highest population? Finding someone in 30 million (roughly the population of the state of California) is already bloody difficult, it's not like 300 million is essential.
Ahem. I present to you, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and most of Europe. Not bad places at all...
Who says high population density is best?
I'm unsure of that. I think there are a whole lot of people in many European countries that are better off than a whole lot of Americans.
I think there are several countries that have lower or comparable crime rates to the USA... I can think of places in the US that I've never been too, and haven't even researched or thought about that hard, that I would feel less safe going into than I would walking around my own hometown.
Perhaps, but... no climate is perfect. For example South Africa actually has milder summers than many US states, I found this quite surprising considering how cold winter gets there. There's plenty of space to move about freely in Ireland.
Open and fair? There are large parts of the US where you'd probably get shot/beaten/lynched if you shouted "I'm Gay!"...
Looking for a prince is not waging a world war. Even a much more primitive military compared to that of the US could cause huge trouble for the general, the only sort of army he wouldn't have to worry about is one that would get too scared and go on strike (like the SA army; the only army in the world to have a union!) UK, France and India have hundreds of nuclear weapons... Russia has more nukes than the US, and if it ever came to requiring ASAT action the US would get involved anyway. I don't think any country has an actual operational ASAT weapon, but the US is probably the best on the subject. Yorick: - You'll be more likely to see pleasure cruises on the Utopia Sea. - I have explained umpteen times why an American location is cliche. You don't seem to listen at all- this is sad. - If location did not matter, all stories would occur in an empty 3d space. - Most audience members will be squicked out by catfish sex regardless. - The US location is cliche. It is not a trivial matter. I have explained this umpteen +1 times and you still don't seem to listen... at least, make sense of what I am saying instead of dismissing it outright. - I am not paranoid. Only sarcastic and sometimes annoyed. - You have a chance to make original aliens but you don't. Why not? Can't an alien be original? Is originality evil? - People will still indirectly blame you for bad aliens. - Humanesque aliens predated Star Trek, but Star Trek did not predate Star Trek. Unfortunately for your - Biologists can write scathing blogs. - Minority Report was mediocre to me, but I liked Gattaca very much... YMMV. - A bad story combined with bad storytelling is bad. - I Am Number Four didn't look like a particularly interesting core concept. A trait which it shares with this. - - Maybe you needed to actually watch Inception, part of the point is that you have to think about the plot to make sense of it. It actually contains a lot of philosophical concepts and crises.
As I said earlier, both the fact that it manages to provoke thought, and the fact that it seems to have been provoked by thought... Also what urufumarukai said.
"My Name is Eli"? Why does this sound familiar? Maybe because of "My Name is Earl"? I mean, even the name is unoriginal. I would personally call it SuperheroSpacePrinceGetsTheGirl, but maybe something like Revelation of Nobility or Leadership Understood would be better... you know, an interesting, original, thought provoking name... something relatively odd, that can make someone think a bit. Eye catching title, is what it is... almost something that is like a tagline in its own right. I mean... if you compare it to titles like District 9, Avatar, or Inception, My Name is Eli is positively boring. Edited by T.Neo, Feb 28 2011, 06:20 PM.

You never explained why at all. You just spouted, paranoid and jealous nonsense.
Quit being so obtuse. You know what I mean.
They won't know or care.
The problem is is that you're not making sense. You're making a trivial matter into something bigger than it is just because you're paranoid and jealous.
It sure sounds like you're paranoid.
Why not? Because I don't care and it doesn't matter. Besides, I'm just going to vaguely describe them and let the filmmakers interpret that in the make-up design which will likely be primate-like. \ You know what? I'll live.

Personally I believe movies nowadays require more catfish sex. It's what the people want. ---- Inception in mind, I was geared up for an absolutely mindfuck of a movie, I do love mindfucks, it's partly why I had such a Higurashi craze at one point. When I went and watched the movie though I didn't get what I had hoped for, unlike what I was told it was an incredibly easy movie to follow and I was rather startled by how psyched my friends were from it. Maybe I'm just too used to that style of story telling. Regardless I still thought it was a nice movie and rented it after it came out on DVD to enjoy it with family.
