| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. I've been toying around with this sci-fi actioner for a few days and I'm wondering if people would see this high concept premise on screen. A fascist general starts a coup against the kingdom on an alien planet. Fearing for his son's safety, the king orders that his son be sent to Earth for his safety till the civil war is over, much to the spoiled prince's chagrin.
The prince is given human form as a teenager and launched into a spacecraft after a heartfelt goodbye by the queen.
Prince lands in the home of a human family somewhere in America. As it turns out, the king visited Earth decades ago and befriended the patriarch's father. The king sent his son here to be raised by him but he died years ago. The family learns this from a holographic recorded message that the king puts in the spacecraft. The family accepts the prince. There's a lot of fish-out-of-water humor of course.
The prince learns humility about Earth culture and customs-
-and even falls in love with a human high schooler-
-but the peace is broken when the general's men come to Earth, tracking the prince down.
They kidnap his girlfriend and surrogate family and the prince has to rescue them and then lead them against the general's men. At the end, the hero has to decide between staying on Earth with the surrogate family he loves or do the honorable thing and go back to his planet and reign as king and unite his people. (He chooses honor instead of love.) What do you think? -By the way, this sci fi story employs the zoo hypothesis to solve the Fermi paradox. -The aliens transform into humans using the same method that the alien in the "The Day the Earth Stood Still" remake used with the womb and all. -Plus, the protagonist has special powers like an accelerated healing factor, superhuman agility, and, most notably, empathy in his human form as a result of the cloning process unlocking dormant genes and cleaning up errors in the DNA strand. Possibly, though the fish out fo water scenes would be somewhat cringeworthy for me. Long pursuits through space, exploration of an alien biosphere? I like those. And as long as you don't claim everything in it to be scientific, i won't moan. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed."

This would definitely be made and accepted by a big studio because its a guaranteed money maker. To make it really successful it needs explosions, lots of them. Also the prince will probably have to be some upcoming teenage girl wet dream. After all this inevitable change by the producers you will feel destroyed. Sounds good though mate producers will probably transform it into something boring though. AND whatever you do, DO NOT LET MICHAEL BAY NEAR IT!!!

I spose Avatar broke in the inter-species barrier - but still - they've only just accepted inter-racial relationships - i don't see them jumping at interspecies (and frankly - I'm not crazy about inter-species coitus - it's bestiality - probably acceptable in New Zealand - only kidding, if I prayed, my prayers would be with all those suffering from the Earthquakes on South Island). |

Or Kiwiquake as some tabloids are callously calling it. You need to consider merchandising with this, what can you sell to do with this film? And it has to appeal to at least 2 of the 4 groups, Young Males, young females, older males and older females. |

Young Females easily if you have an attractive prince, perhaps if you shove in some pretty epic battle scenes then young males perhaps? |

Also it can't be too complicated, you're trying to show this across the world, any subtle jokes won't translate well. |

No, there is not much money in that one niche, some but not lots. You'll need more varity. Look Yorick, nice idea and all be we're going to have to turn your film idea into a website for iffy porn, it's the only way to make it profitable. If you want to tell your story, write a book and hope someone wants to make a film out of it. |

Would I see this movie? Maybe. Would I pay money to see it in a cinema? Probably not. Why? Because it's the same overused boring teenage-sci-fi-high-school-nerd-allegory-with-fantastical-elements-and-a-romatic-subplot cliche film that I fear demonstrates the poverty of the human condition as well as the useless trash that clogs up the great modern art form that is film. For starters... the prince lands in... AMERICA. Always the US! D: This is the major reason why I love District 9 so much- yes, it was set in South Africa, and it's awesome to have a film set on your home turf, but it was also set in South Africa- Johannesburg, not New York, or Los Angeles, or Washington DC... what a breath of fresh air, when a film comes out that is set someplace other than the US (or the UK, if it's some sort of dark depressing science fiction film). Where in America? Either the midwest or California... always the midwest or California. How about, instead, he lands in Alaska, at the very least? Or how about Florida? Can't he land in Canada? I mean, Canada is pretty darn close to the US, both geographically and culturally. Or he could land in Australia or New Zealand, for example. Geographically remote, but still culturally similar to AMERICA. There is logic against having him land in say, Botswana, or India, or the PRC, because everyone speaks in Tswana/Hindi/Mandarin, and have lifestyles that differ from those of AMERICANS. Look, I don't hate AMERICANS at all- I think the US is a great country, and is home to great people- but I'm sick and tired of films only dealing with AMERICANS in AMERICA with an AMERICAN way of life. Can't films showcase... Brussels, once in a while? Or Taiwan? Anything? I mean, surely AMERICANS are interesed in other countries? Doesn't it give them a better view of the world and the place that they- and their country as a whole- takes in it? No? So it's just AMERICA and "the other countries", right? That view, if it is as prevalent as it seems, annoys me a lot. Flying fusion car? Seriously? Is it even that funny? Maybe the Prince could use a plant-powered convertible as his personal 'ride'- after all, don't royals typically use outmoded forms of transportation ceremoniously? And would an alien prince even want to kiss a human high schooler? I mean, would anyone here want to kiss an alien? Would anyone here want to kiss a Rhinoceros? Even if it "felt good", that doesn't make it any less disgusting... Furthermore the "kidnap girlfriend (DAMSEL IN DISTRESS) and family" trope is SO common it isn't funny. It's like, "here, I steal important people, now PLAY HERO!". And he chooses honor instead of love? What a downer ending... if he left the attractive female love interest (tm) on Earth to cry herself into a major depressive episode for the next two months, even I would begin to tear up. Of course, maybe she wouldn't mind the rejection that much after learning that the guy she made out with resembles a cross between a lobster and a catfish... How does "disguising yourself" have anything to do with the Zoo hypothesis? What hides all the gigantic spaceships? Or the planetary civilisations? Why doesn't the General start dropping gigaton nukes all over the place, rather than sifting through over 6 billion humans to find the prince? Why didn't he redirect his efforts to conquering Earth, with it's large population and relatively primitive weaponry? Why doesn't the Prince have to go through months, at least, of rehabilitative therapy so he can learn how to use his new body? Why does it have to be a prince? Can't it be a princess? Or a first son/daughter, or something? Do all serious protagonists have to be- for some reason- male, or can we for once at least, have a proper strong female character? The story concept has a lot of potential, but unfortunately without a lot of rework it only either has potential to be annoyingly-successful-but-poor-in-substance-and-heavily-cliched or poor-in-substance-and-heavily-cliched-box-office-and-critical-flop.
It's only beastiality if they can't consent.

Hmmm....your answers are always terribly long..... But I have answers to that too. An rp I'm working on (come on, there practically books!) Is set in a far east metropolis. And yes, my protagonist is male, but on GS nearly ALL the protagonist were FEMALE. So I gave a twist in a twist. |

"You shall perish, whatever you do! If you are taken with arms in your hands, death! If you beg for mercy, death! Whichever way you turn, right, left, back, forward, up, down, death! You are not merely outside the law, you are outside humanity. Neither age nor sex shall save you and yours. You shall die, but first you shall taste the agony of your wife, your sister, your sons and daughters, even those in the cradle! Before your eyes the wounded man shall be taken out of the ambulance and hacked with bayonets or knocked down with the butt end of a rifle. He shall be dragged living by his broken leg or bleeding arm and flung like a suffering, groaning bundle of refuse into the gutter. Death! Death! Death!"

I would change that for inter-alien. You could have non-human sapients on earth. |

I know my answers are always really, really long... that's because I end up putting so much information into them. I could probably summarise 65% of the stuff I say, but that would take more effort... |
