| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! Will extraterrestrial life evolve faster or slower than earth organisms? |

Depends, on a lot of factors. Rate of reproduction and mutation can be focused on for now. If they have faster metabolisms than us, they can evolve faster with short lives and many offspring. If their star, chromosome structure, etc. is different, more mutations could occur. Most would still be detrimental, but. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed." | |

So all depends on the creatures biology then, but could there be a organism that could evolve in month or weaks like the ones in the film evolution. |

Unlikely, i've seen the film, but there just isn't time for selection there. |

Weeks you mean. It all depends on rate of mutation in comparison to rate of reproduction, if they only get, say, one abstract "mutation unit" per generation and Earthly life gets 5 mutation units per generation then they'd be slower. There is the possibility of a tree of life snatching up a similar method of cellular production as what we have for our immune system, with high levels of "selective" mutation. |

There's no point having mutations if they don't have time to prove beneficial and be selected for, in the long run. The stuff in the film could only have been 1) directed evolution or 2) fantasy. |

They might have different brains, if they even have them, that could alter how they percive time. They could think of months as years. |

Like the one from the novel dragon egg in which the creatures evolved more faster than on earth. Edited by Dark-Matter, Dec 30 2011, 03:46 PM.

Mutation rate has ZILCH to do with how you think. Brain STRUCTURE is changed by nutations, but does not 'phychically' change them as you seem to be suggesting. |

I was thinking virus invade the DNA and what about if in another planet they invading the DNA a recombinating it,this would force the creature to evolve Right? |
