Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Modern flamingoes might be among the most specialised birds diet wise (although I think there is anecdotal evidence for american or great flamingoes consuming plant matter like geese), but until fairly recently the less specialised Palaelodid flamingoes were around. They were somewhat duck like in habits, being filter feeding omnivores instead of specialised filter feeders.

So, what is some Palaelodids got isolated in an island? They'd probably give rise to large, flightless species.

Imagine This turning into something akin to This. Of course, this is just me being unoriginal; things like terror bird flamingoes or moa flamingoes could evolve as well.

I like these ideas
I do art sometimes.

"if you want green eat a salad"

Projects:
Amammalia: A strange place where mammals didn't make it and the land is, once again, dominated by archosaurs.

Oceanus: An endless sea dotted with islands, reefs, and black holes. Literally endless, literal black holes.

Terror bird flamingos? That's original. I guess something like that could evolve, since the discovery of the almost-flightless terror stork....

But I think the most likely to evolve is crane flamingos and rhea flamingos.
