| Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web. While unregistered users are able to browse the forum on a basic level, registering an account provides additional forum access not visible to guests as well as the ability to join in discussions and contribute yourself! So I just renewed my subscription to Star Trek Online, and I need some help. Right now I have a galaxy class exploration cruiser (I called it the Uberprise), but to serve my interests better I'm going to get an intrepid class science vessel. I want to give it a spec related name though, or at least a science-y one. I considered calling it the Mandelbrot, but I'd rather have a biology related name. I've considered naming her the Dougal Dixon, but I'm not really a fan of Dixon. Anyone have any ideas? |

We should all aspire to die surrounded by our dearest friends. Just like Julius Caesar. "The Lord Universe said: 'The same fate I have given to all things from stones to stars, that one day they shall become naught but memories aloft upon the winds of time. From dust all was born, and to dust all shall return.' He then looked upon His greatest creation, life, and pitied them, for unlike stars and stones they would soon learn of this fate and despair in the futility of their own existence. And so the Lord Universe decided to give life two gifts to save them from this despair. The first of these gifts was the soul, that life might more readily accept their fate, and the second was fear, that they might in time learn to avoid it altogether." - Excerpt from a Chanagwan creation myth, Legends and Folklore of the Planet Ghar, collected and published by Yieju Bai'an, explorer from the Celestial Commonwealth of Qonming Tree That Owns Itself

The Over the Rainbow, Pillar of Autumn, Nike, White Star, Serenity, Nahel Argama, Amaterasu, Yamato, Rodger Young, Prometheus, Hippaforalkus and Pegasus are all good names of good, honorable, made up ships, and if you are know where they are all from, congratulations you get a free two year extension on your virginity. But here is a list of Antarctic explorers and their ships. I'd name it Scott, he trekked miles to get a penguin egg, as it was believed the embryos would give more evidence for evolution, and while some Norwegian was larking about with sleds, eating his own dogs Scott was lugging a sled himself loaded with scientific equipment and rock samples. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroic_Age_of_Antarctic_Exploration Or if you're feeling lazy just call it Beagle. The ships most used by James Cook were HMS Endeavour and HMS Resolution And HMS is not part of the name, it's a ship prefix. His will be USS, United Space Ship. Unless the game lets you overthrow the government and establish one that uses HMS rather than USS. But I don't think it does. |

Something about the scientific method? Maybe not. 'USS. Scientia' would be 'knowledge'. |

Time flows like a river. Which is to say, downhill. We can tell this because everything is going downhill rapidly. It would seem prudent to be somewhere else when we reach the sea. "It is the old wound my king. It has never healed."

Henry you dick! Mr. Hands "Am I boring? Depends, do you like watching documentaries about 19th and 18th century warfare, having complicated feelings about bismark and crying over the film of winston churchill putting flowers on FDR's grave. If so then I'm so fucking boring. "

The Uneven Elephant. Or you could name it after a famous space mission. Cassini, Viking, Venera. |

I named it the Mandelbrot. And I already discharged it, science vessels royally suck. It couldn't even stand up to a single Cardassian ship. I'll just stick with my galaxy class. At least it's proven in battle. |
