Speculative biology is simultaneously a science and form of art in which one speculates on the possibilities of life and evolution. What could the world look like if dinosaurs had never gone extinct? What could alien lifeforms look like? What kinds of plants and animals might exist in the far future? These questions and more are tackled by speculative biologists, and the Speculative Evolution welcomes all relevant ideas, inquiries, and world-building projects alike. With a member base comprising users from across the world, our community is the largest and longest-running place of gathering for speculative biologists on the web.

Okay - thought I'd present the project I mentioned in JohnFaa's Polynesian Civilzation thread.

A tropical south seas archipelago (probably in the Indian Ocean)

Many "animals" are sapient (e.g. pigs) - don't ask me how - could be a result of genetic engineering - there are many species / races of humanoids. I designed this "plane" of realilty as a vehicle for children's books....

As you can see from the picture, "dairy" farming is undertaken by husbanding large long tailed animals with many udders (8 on each side). Rhinocereoses have been domesticated as have other large non-specific pachyderms. Many "large" animals in our reality are represented as dwarf gracile forms.

There are gigantic harmless flightless birds.

Just a picture to start off (i scanned this picture circa 1993):

here's a sort of a bush-baby-cum-tarser-cum-loris, it uses a fake wiggly maggot on the end of its tail to lure prey, then hypnotises it with its spriral irises...

and another "lemuriform" from Lemuria

(if anyone's seen Richard Dadd's 19th Century psychedelic "The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke" from 1855-64, this is my version of the stressed out bloke in the middle [see spoiler below])

FANTASTIC illustrations! Liking everything so far...
thanks dude!!!

Spent Monday at home recovering from outdoor rock festival on Sunday - and went thru all my old projects (some dating back to 1984) and some semi-professional cartoons/posters/paste ups I did, and thought "what the f--k have I been doing all these years?" - so gonna wake up all my old projects - including Methedone (the planet with 9 moons and a monoculture of one species) - and another one with marsupial megafauna and sapient marsupials...

But the only project that has any real future is this one - Lemuria - and Zarathustra...
